Patrimonialização e musealização da memória da violência política durante a Ditadura Militar e o Estado Novo

Abstract

Há 48 anos findou o Estado Novo e extinguiu-se a sua polícia política (PVDE/PIDE/DGS). Dessa vivência ditatorial permanecem vestígios materiais e imateriais que simbolizam discriminação, perseguição, ódio, silenciamento e indiferença, e que são portadores de cisões e distúrbios da vida social, cultural e política. Estas heranças têm sido estudadas de forma transdisciplinar, mas escasseiam investigações com a perspectiva patrimonial e museológica. Aljube e Peniche, dois estabelecimentos prisionais do Estado Novo, foram musealizados, com o grande contributo da sociedade civil, das associações e do poder político, erguendo-se os Museus da Resistência e Liberdade, cuja essência é a história da resistência à Ditadura Militar e ao Estado Novo. E no Norte do país? Perpetua-se um profundo vazio museológico da história e arqueologia contemporâneas e das memórias políticas. Esta dissertação é um exercício que incide na musealização da delegação da polícia política, no Porto, no edifício do Heroísmo, nos seus factos históricos e memórias sociais, com vista à sua preservação integral. Proclamando um desajuste na representação e comunicação da memória daquele lugar de repressão por parte do Museu Militar do Porto, onde não se estuda, nem divulga o que ali aconteceu, conceptualizou-se, museologicamente, aquilo que tem vindo a ser reclamado, desde 1974, por vários grupos sociais. Desenvolveu-se, então, uma possível identidade do Museu da Resistência do Porto, que aborda uma visão contínua da violência política de Estado até ao período democrático. Com a clara convicção da importância de representar museologicamente este passado recente de repressão, com a finalidade de integrar o património cultural, de analisar os valores que estão relacionados com ele, e ambicionando o acesso democrático à cultura e à educação, bem como ao desenvolvimento social e territorial, procura demonstrar-se, aqui, a pertinência da discussão em torno da criação do Museu da Resistência no Porto, precisamente no local onde os valores da liberdade e democracia foram mais atacados e encarcerados, a ex-delegação da PVDE/PIDE/DGS na Rua do Heroísmo.

48 years ago, the authoritarian political regime of the Estado Novo ended and its political police (PVDE/PIDE/DGS) was extinguished. From that dictatorial experience, material and immaterial traces remain which symbolize discrimination, persecution, hatred, silencing and indifference, and which are carriers of divisions and disturbances in social, cultural and political life. This legacy has been studied in a transdisciplinary way, but investigations from the perspective of heritage and museological are scarce.Aljube and Peniche, two prisons of the Estado Novo, were musealized with the significant contribution of society, associations and political power, creating the Museums of Resistance and Freedom, whose essence is the history of resistance to the Military Dictatorship and to the Estado Novo. And what about the northern Portugal? A deep museological void of contemporary history, archaeology and political memories persists.This master’s dissertation is an exercise that focuses on the musealization of the delegation of the political police in Porto, on the Heroísmo building, and on its historical facts and social memories, aiming at its integral preservation.Arguing for a mismatch in the representation and communication of memory of that place of repression by the Military Museum of Porto – a place whose events are not studied nor disseminated – we have conceptualized museologically what social groups have claimed since 1974. Therefore, we developed the identity for a potential Museum of Resistance of Porto, which addresses a continuous view of State political violence until the democratic period.As we are convinced of the importance of depicting museologically the recent past of repression, in order to integrate the cultural heritage, examine the values related to it, and facilitate democratic access to culture and education, as well as social and territorial development, this dissertation seeks to show the relevance of the discussion surrounding the creation of the Museum of Resistance in Porto, precisely at the site where freedom and democratic values were most attacked and imprisoned: the former PVDE/PIDE/DGS delegation at Rua do Heroísmo.
