ORIGENS, IDEIAS E PERCURSO DO MOVIMENTO FEDERALISTA PORTUGUÊS-PARTIDO DO PROGRESSO

Abstract

Procurando contribuir para a construção de um conhecimento historiográfico ainda incipiente no que concerne a uma esfera de actores e agentes políticos ultrapassada pelo ritmo frenético dos acontecimentos revolucionários, que se situava, circunstancial e ideologicamente, à direita do processo revolucionário de transição para a democracia, esta dissertação trata de um dos principais movimentos partidários da direita política no período pós-revolucionário de Abril de 1974, o Movimento Federalista Português-Partido do Progresso. Para tal desiderato, é pertinente processar-se contextualmente o próprio período histórico sob a lente deste actor político, relacionando paralelamente a conjuntura histórico-política com as vicissitudes do partido, mormente a sua relação com as instituições do poder revolucionário, bem como o seu relacionamento com outros movimentos político-partidários. Iniciando, inclusive, a narrativa a partir dos anos do fim do Estado-Novo, onde se localizam as coordenadas históricas, políticas e ideológicas do MFP-Partido do Progresso- sedeadas na Alma Mater da maioria do escol dirigente do futuro partido, a Universidade de Coimbra, de onde emana o âmago doutrinário nacionalista-revolucionário que entroncará substancialmente na cosmovisão do MFP-Partido do Progresso- , mas indo também além da sua extinção enquanto partido após a malograda manifestação da “Maioria Silenciosa” de 28 de Setembro de 1974, estabelecendo traços comuns no percurso político seguido pelos seus dirigentes, particularmente no que concerne à militância clandestina no MDLP do General Spínola. Não obstante, é a busca pela caracterização ideológica do partido e consequente arquétipo doutrinário, bem como dos seus vectores estruturantes de acção política, que constituem o âmago da presente dissertação, por forma a categorizar assertivamente o MFP-Partido do Progresso dentro do espectro político-ideológico estrutural e epocal.

Aiming to contribute towards an historiographic know how that still is quite insufficient when it comes to actors and political figures, that were overlooked due to incessant pace of the revolutionary actions, and that did reside to the right of the revolutionary process of democratic transition, this dissertation deals with one of the main party movements of the political right at the post-revolutionary period of April 1974, the MFP-Partido do Progresso.For this purpose, it will not be negligible to contextually process the historical period itself under the lens of this political actor, paralleling the historical-political situation with the vicissitudes of the party, especially its relationship with the institutions of revolutionary power as well as the relationship with other party political movements. Even pulling the tape to the ending days of the Estado-Novo, where the historical, political and ideological coordinates of the MFP-Partido do Progresso lies on- based in the Alma Mater of the majority of the directory of the future party, the University of Coimbra, from where the nationalist-revolutionary doctrinal core emanates, wich will substantially influence the cosmovision of the MFP-Partido do Progresso-, but also going beyond its extinction as a party after the unsuccessful demonstration of the “Silent Majority” of September 28, 1974, establishing traces common in the political path followed by its leaders, particularly with regard to clandestine militancy in General Spínola's MDLP. Nevertheless, it is the search for the ideological characterization of the party and the consequent doctrinal archetype, as well as its structuring vectors of political action, which constitute the main thrust of this dissertation.
