O Acervo da Casa de Mateus. Ações de caracter interventivo no Museu e Arquivo da Fundação

Abstract

Um pouco por todo o mundo assistimos à salvaguarda de diferentes bens, de valor cultural ou patrimonial, muitas vezes preservados em Museus ou instituições idênticas. É neste aspeto que a Museologia ganha peso e torna-se, a par do Restauro e da Conservação, elemento fundamental para a perpetuação do que é o Património e o passado histórico. Portugal não é exceção a este paradigma cada vez mais crescente e dinâmico – com inúmeros museus de excelência, dos mais variados temas e assuntos, faz os possíveis para acompanhar a atualidade e os novos desafios. Exemplo disto é a pandemia de COVID-19, que singrou como um dos grandes obstáculos desde 2019 até à atualidade, aos Museus e instituições culturais. Mas, significa também o esforço de superação que foi desenvolvido, não só em Portugal, para manter abertas as portas de inúmeros estabelecimentos culturais, tanto públicos como privados. O presente trabalho resulta da realização de um estágio curricular na Casa de Mateus em Vila Real. No seu decorrer foram realizadas diferentes atividades, por parte da aluna, que culminam agora na descrição e reflexão atenta destes quatro meses. Outro objetivo agora proposto é a compreensão da instituição enquanto elemento cultural, de valor histórico e patrimonial, nas suas diversas vertentes, incluindo a da Museologia. A Casa de Mateus contém um forte espólio, que atravessa cerca de quatro séculos de História, um Arquivo repleto de documentação e reservas de objetos e um vasto programa cultural. Estes fatores permitem que esta instituição se destaque enquanto elemento característico do Norte do país – não só a nível do turismo, mas com fortes contributos civilizacionais. A metodologia utilizada neste relatório, teve como base uma abordagem qualitativa através do cruzamento do estudo de caso com o estudo histórico da Casa e do seu acervo material. Mas também, uma abordagem quantitativa no que diz respeito à aferição de mais de 500 peças, resultando na conceção do Inventário Museológico da Fundação e no Projeto de Catálogo do Museu.

All over the world we have seen the safeguarding of different assets, of cultural heritage value, often preserved in museums or identical institutions. It is in this aspect that Museology gains weight and becomes, alongside Restoration and Conservation, a fundamental element for the perpetuation of what is Heritage and the historical past. Portugal is no exception to this increasingly growing and dynamic paradigm – with numerous museums of excellence, of the most varied themes and subjects, it does its best to keep up with the current and new challenges. An example of this is the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been one of the major obstacles since 2019 to present, to museums and cultural institutions. But it also means the overcoming effort that has been developed, not only in Portugal, to keep open the doors of numerous cultural establishments, both public and private. The present work results from the realization of a curricular internship at Casa de Mateus in Vila Real. In it’s course, different activities were carried out by the student, which now culminate in the careful description and reflection of these four months. Another objective now proposed is the understanding of the institution as a cultural element, of historical and patrimonial value, in it’s various aspects, including that of Museology. The Casa de Mateus contains a strong estate, which spans about four centuries of History, an Archive full of documentation and reserves of objects and a vast cultural program. These factors allow this institution to stand out as a characteristic element of the North of the country – not only in terms of tourism, but with strong civilizational contributions. The methodology used in this report was based on a qualitative approach through the crossing of the case study with the historical study of the House and its material collection. But also, a quantitative approach regarding the measurement of more than 500 pieces, resulting in the Foundation´s Museum Inventory and the Museum Catalog Project.
