Desenho generativo de tipos fonéticos

Abstract

Desde o início da humanidade, a comunicação tornou-se um aspecto fundamental para a evolução humana. Com a introdução à escrita pelo povo sumério (cerca de 3.000 a.C.), foram criados símbolos que permitem registar em papel o que foi comunicado através da fala.Em diversas partes do mundo foram criados diferentes alfabetos, de acordo com os sons utilizados em cada linguagem. No caso particular da Língua Portuguesa existem palavras no qual uma letra pode ter vários sons diferentes (por exemplo a letra “a” quando está presente nas palavras: Saca, Casa, etc).O objetivo desta dissertação é a criação de uma fonte que represente os sons fonéticos característicos da língua portuguesa.Inicialmente, é realizado um estudo com o objetivo de compreender melhor a fonética, as suas origens através do alfabeto fonético inglês e como este se desenvolveu para o alfabeto fonético internacional, tal como perceber que projetos foram criados nesta área. Realizando posteriormente uma análise aos diferentes trabalhos, permitindo-me recolher toda a informação necessária para a próxima etapa. O desenvolvimento prático inicia-se mais tarde com a concepção e desenvolvimento da fonte fonética, sendo esta focada na criação e desenvolvimento da tipografia; é estabelecido um conjunto de regras e objetivos, com base nos conhecimentos adquiridos, para a criação do projeto prático. Por último, são analisados os resultados obtidos. Foi também desenvolvido um programa em Processing, que permite a tradução de palavras pela pela fonte desenvolvida nesta dissertação.

Since the beginning of humanity, communication has become a fundamental aspect of human evolution. With the introduction of writing by the Sumerian people (about 3,000 BC), symbols were created that allow recording on paper what was communicated through speech. Different alphabets have been created in different parts of the world, according to the sounds used in each language. In the particular case of the Portuguese language, there are words in which a letter can have several different sounds (for example the letter “a” when it is present in the words: Saca, Casa, etc). The objective of this dissertation is to create a font that represents the phonetic sounds characteristic of the Portuguese language.Initially, a study is carried out in order to better understand phonetics, its origins through the English phonetic alphabet and how it developed into the international phonetic alphabet, as well as to understand what projects were created in this area. Subsequently carrying out an analysis of the different works, allowing me to collect all the necessary information for the next step. The practical development starts later with the design and development of the phonetic font, which is focused on the creation and development of typography; a set of rules and objectives is established, based on the acquired knowledge, for the creation of the practical project. Finally, the results obtained are analyzed. A Processing program was also developed, which allows the translation of words by the source developed in this dissertation.
