Castelo de Almourol - Memória Entre Margens

Abstract

Repensar a ordem dos Castelos dos Templários, no âmbito do Seminário de Investigação The Beautiful Past, apresenta-se como uma dupla oportunidade. Por um lado, para perceber o impacto da presença da Ordem do Templo em Portugal e o seu papel fundamental, enquanto Ordem Militar, na formação e consolidação do território, bem como na adaptação e evolução de técnicas construtivas e arquitetónicas em diversas estruturas militares, como o Castelo de Almourol. Por outro, para poder utilizar o projeto como suporte capaz de materializar a relação dos tempos passado, presente e futuro com o espaço/lugar, consolidando e valorizando por esta via a estrutura patrimonial. O Castelo de Almourol, é um dos mais representativos da arquitetura militar da Ordem do Templo e da Reconquista, tendo assumido o papel de ponto nevrálgico no sistema defensivo de Tomar e nas rotas comerciais do Tejo. A falência do seu propósito estratégico, inevitavelmente associada à extinção da Ordem do Templo, conduziu ao seu esquecimento, caducidade e desvalorização funcional, situação que perdurou até ao sec. XIX, tendo posteriormente sido alvo de intervenções de caráter romântico, ideológico e conjuntural. Atualmente as intervenções de valorização do património são indissociáveis da importância do valor da economia do turismo cultural. O recurso turístico em que se tornou o Castelo de Almourol, capaz de atrair públicos de todas as formações e origens, reforçará a sua afirmação através do acréscimo de valor cultural e económico proporcionado pela sua clara interpretação, legibilidade e harmonia ambiental.A memória, perpetuada na pedra que dá forma ao monumento, paira sobre a paisagem e o Rio que o envolvem, criando o leitmotiv perfeito ao desenvolvimento de uma proposta que simultaneamente o respeite e valorize.Palavras-chave: Ordem do Templo; Castelo/Almourol; memória; património; turismo.

The seminar The Beautiful Past is intended to rethink the order of the Templar Castel, which ends up presenting itself as a double opportunity: To understand the impact of the Templar Order in Portugal, and its fundamental role as a Military Order, in the formation and consolidation of the territory, as well as in the adaptation and evolution of construction and architectural techniques in various military structures, such as the Almourol Castle; but also to use the project as a support capable of materializing the relationship of the past, present, and future with the place, consolidating and valuing the monument.Almourol Castle is one of the most representative military architecture of the Temple Order and the Reconquista, having assumed the role of a neuralgic point in the defensive system of Tomar and the trade routes of Rio Tejo. After extinguishing the Temple Order, the castle passed to the Christ Order, which would be extinguished as well. Combining this factor with the failure of its strategic purpose as a military structure, led to its oblivion, and obsolescence. This situation lasted until sec. XIX, having later been the target of romantic, ideological, and punctual treatment.Currently, patrimony enhancement interventions are inseparable from the importance of the economic value of cultural tourism. The tourist resource that the Almourol Castle has become, capable of attracting audiences of all backgrounds and origins, will reinforce its assertion through cultural and economic value provided by its clear interpretation, legibility, and environmental harmony.The memory, perpetuated in the stone that gives shape to the monument, embraces the landscape and the river around it, creating the perfect leitmotiv to develop a proposal that simultaneously respects and values it.Key words: Temple Order; Castle/Almourol; memory; patrimony; turism
