Title: | Proposta para o tratamento final das aguas Residuais da bacia de oxidacao de Benguela | Authors: | Buaio, João Hossi | Orientador: | Pratas, João António Mendes Serra Rodrigues, Nelson Edgar Viegas |
Keywords: | Bacia de oxidação; fitorremediação; wetland artificial; Oxidation lagoon; phytoremediation; artificial wetland | Issue Date: | Oct-2012 | Place of publication or event: | Coimbra | Abstract: | O presente trabalho centra-se no estudo de medidas que permitam melhorar o
This work focuses on the study of measures to improve the wastewater treatment process that takes place at the oxidation lagoons of the Benguela city, Angola. This is is the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) constructed by PRUALB (urban rehabilitation project of Benguela and Lobito) in 1997, and it is managed by the municipal administration and by the Benguela Water and Sanitation Company. In the thesis, it is proposed to use phytoremediation as a technique for the improvement of the operation of the Benguela WWTP. The various techniques of phytoremediation are described where plants are able to absorb, inhibit or remove contaminant substances from the water. Artificial wetlands are also described, their types, advantages and some drawbacks of this process for wastewater treatment. The area where the oxidation lagoon sits is characterized and the existing operating process is described, essentially highlighting the technical parameters of the functional status of the ponds and the resulting effluent from the treatment. The results of the chemical analysis of plants and mud collected at the site are discussed. There are used to size a possible artificial wetland that could improve the quality of the current effluent. A mixed flow wetland system is proposed: it combines sub-surface parts with free of flow in other parts). This would provide a more efficient type of wetland taking into account the characteristics of the plants proposed which also have the advantage of being autochthonous. |
