Introduction: From the major allowed substances worldwide, alcohol is one of the most consumed and unweighted of them, especially among young adults. Such consumption is associated to nefarious consequences and risk behaviours. During college years, the use of substances is like a refugee for the youngsters and during their academic parties, "binge drinking" is the major issue.Goals: To investigate which are the main factors that, according to students of Universidade de Coimbra (UC), can explain the relation between excessive alcohol consumption and college parties. Methods: The observational study to the UC students was made using an unique online questionnaire, via Google Forms, after identifying a limited number of factors, and with the help of the Student Association of each of the UC colleges, using the following question: "In your opinion, which are the reasons why there is an increasingly amount of alcohol consumption in college parties?". A descriptive statistic and inferential study was conducted. Results: A sample of the UC students, aged between seventeen (17) and forty (40) (n=466) was studied. The nominated points are "Socializing", "Festival Atmosphere" and "Pleasure".A significant variation was verified in the pair of answer options with gender (p<0,001). Males would often choose "Festival Atmosphere"/"Pleasure" (19,30%) and "Socializing"/"Festival Atmosphere" (16,70%), whereas females would prefer "Socializing"/"Festival Atmosphere" (31,60%) and "Socializing"/"Pleasure" (18,40%). On the subject of grade of schooling, the group "above the third (3rd) year" has "Socializing" (31,57%) and "Festival Atmosphere" (28,39%), whereas the group "bellow the third (3rd) year" has "Socializing" (25,87%) and "Festival Atmosphere" (23,91%), with a special focus on "Pleasure" (23,70%).Discussion: This difference in gender of the consumption pattern and its rationale is probably due to psychological processes and underlying neurological processes. Conclusion: The predictive factors for an excessive alcohol consumption in college parties of UC are "Socializing", "Festival Atmosphere" and "Pleasure", therefore any preventive strategies for spreading awareness on this topic should be focused on the mentioned factors. More specialized ones should focus on gender and grade of schooling.
