Introduction: Gender Identity is defined by the way the individual perceives their gender. In some cases, Gender Incongruence can occur, which means the biological sex does not match with the individual’s gender identity. Gender Dysphoria is a condition that happens when gender incongruence causes distress to the patient. Gender Dysphoria patients have a significantly lower quality of life comparing to general population, namely in physical and social domains. Objective: The present study pretends to conduct a revision of the literature, concerning the quality of life of patients with gender dysphoria, during their treatment procedures, with focus on the factors which cause a positive impact on these individuals.Materials and Methods: This research was conducted on the database Pubmed and included studies published between 2001 and 2021. The terms used on the search where related to ‘Gender Dysphoria’ and ‘Quality of Life’.Results: This revision included 57 studies, concerning the quality of life in transgender individuals, the impact of gender reassignment surgery, hormonotherapy, and the influence of age, sleeping problems, voice, and psychotherapy on the life of these patients.Discussion: Most of the studies showed that the quality of life in transgender is lower when compared to the cisgender population. Social and family support were one of the strongest predictors of quality of life in transgender individuals. Gender reassignment surgery and hormonotherapy significantly improved the quality of life of these patients when compared to pre-treatment values. Conclusion: The treatment offered to patients with gender dysphoria allows a greater congruence between the gender identity and the biological sex, and consequently a greater wellbeing and life satisfaction.eng
