Necessary Condition Analysis: identificação de fatores críticos para a concretização de projetos

Abstract

The dissertation here presented is the result of the work developed in a curricular internship at The Navigator Company, more precisely in the Internal Consulting department. This had as an objective the identification of critical success factors on the implementation of the projects developed in different departments of the company, with a focus in cost reduction and operational optimization. The problem that this work pretends to solve and mitigate is based on the reduction of the concretization ratio of these projects, detected between 2017 and 2018. This work is focused in the identification of Critical Success Factors using the Necessary Condition Analysis, a relatively recent tool for hypotheses confirmation where necessity between variables is in question. After the identification of 13 possible critical factors, which were referenced in the literature review as something necessary for the projects’ concretization, a survey was built and shared through the responsible persons for projects. After finishing the data processing, the hypotheses were evaluated, and 9 critical success factors were identified. More specifically, it was verified a high critical effect for the autonomy to define objectives, the feeling of motivation, the existence of a specific planning of the actions to implement and the execution of a correct monitorization.Therefore, the implementation of several measures that guarantee the existence of each of these 9 factors in future projects was suggested.

A presente dissertação resulta do trabalho desenvolvido num estágio curricular realizado na empresa The Navigator Company, mais precisamente na área de Consultoria Interna. Este teve como objetivo a identificação de fatores críticos para o sucesso na implementação dos projetos desenvolvidos em diversas Direções da Companhia, cujo objetivo se focava na redução de custos e otimização operacional. O problema que este trabalho pretende solucionar e mitigar assenta na redução da taxa de concretização destes projetos, detetada entre 2017 e 2018.Este trabalho incidiu na identificação de fatores críticos de sucesso usando a Necessary Condition Analysis, uma ferramenta relativamente recente de confirmação de hipóteses de necessidade entre variáveis. Após a identificação de 13 potenciais fatores críticos, referidos na revisão bibliográfica como algo necessário a garantir para se obter sucesso na concretização de projetos, foi construído e distribuído um questionário pelas pessoas responsáveis pelos projetos. No final do processamento dos dados recolhidos foram avaliadas as hipóteses, tendo sido identificados 9 fatores críticos de sucesso. Mais concretamente, provou-se um alto efeito de criticidade para a autonomia de definição de objetivos, o sentido de motivação, a existência de um planeamento específico das ações a implementar e a execução de uma correta monitorização.Desta forma, foi sugerida a implementação de diversas medidas que garantam a presença destes 9 fatores em projetos futuros cuja hipótese foi confirmada.
