Desafios do português ‘popular’ do Brasil no século XXI

Abstract

Este estudo reflete sobre as mudanças da língua portuguesa ocorridas nos séculos XVII a XX, fase crucial de alterações que fazem divergir o português brasileiro do português europeu, e compara o brasileiro ‘popular’ atual com o idioma falado pelos escravos de origem africana no Brasil e em Portugal, no mesmo período, com o propósito de encontrar pistas sobre a génese do brasileiro ‘popular’, que tem uma expressão avassaladora no Brasil de hoje. Em complemento, analisam-se alguns factores socioculturais que podem ter contribuído para o protelamento na incorporação do brasileiro ‘popular’ nas políticas de língua e sua inclusão no universo do estudo, do ensino e da aprendizagem da língua. Razões históricas e culturais explicam que a afirmação e consolidação do brasileiro ‘popular’ como objeto emblemático de enorme valor simbólico só tenha começado a fazer-se no século XX, com o movimento modernista e, de forma consistentemente científica, nos finais deste, com trabalhos de Castilho (2010), Faraco (2008, 2016), Lucchesi (2001, 2015, 2017), Mattos e Silva (2001, 2004a, 2004b, 2008), Neves (2003, 2011), para citar alguns dos maiores.

This study explores the changes of the Portuguese Language that occurred in the period between the 17th to the 20th centuries, a crucial phase of changes that make the Brazilian and the European varieties diverge, and compares the current ‘popular’ Brazilian with the language spoken by slaves from African of Brazil and of Portugal, in the same period, in order to find traces of the hodiern ‘popular’ Brazilian, that has an overwhelming expression in Brazil today. In addition, we analyze some sociocultural factors that may have contributed to the delayed incorporation of ‘popular’ Brazilian Portuguese in language policies and its inclusion in the field of language study, teaching and learning. Historical and cultural reasons explain that the affirmation and consolidation of the ‘popular’ Brazilian Portuguese as an emblematic object with a major symbolic value has only begun to take place in the twentieth century, with the modernist movement and, in a consistently scientific way, at the end of this century, with works of Castilho (2010), Faraco (2008, 2016), Lucchesi (2001, 2015, 2017), Mattos e Silva (2001, 2004 a, 2004b, 2008), Neves (2003, 2011), to name some of the more representative.
