Die größere Hoffnung, de Ilse Aichinger: tradução comentada de dois capítulos

Abstract

Este projeto consiste na tradução portuguesa de dois capítulos do romance Die größere Hoffnung, da autora austríaca Ilse Aichinger, acompanhada do respetivo comentário. Um dos critérios importantes para a seleção desta obra foi o facto de não se encontrar traduzida para português. O romance trata as vivências de um grupo de crianças durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, numa cidade que será presumivelmente Viena. O ponto de vista é o de Ellen, uma criança que, de acordo com as Leis de Nuremberga, é considerada Mischling e a quem está proibida a saída do país. Perante esta impossibilidade, Ellen desenvolve a crença numa noção transcendente de esperança, que lhe permite lidar com um mundo às avessas. Esta esperança transcendente ganha expressão numa linguagem de tom surrealista, próxima do sonho, que traduz o mundo infantil da criança. Nessa linguagem, fortemente imagética, comparecem muitas vezes a comparação e a personificação.Este projeto começa por delinear alguns aspetos teóricos relacionados com o texto literário e com a sua tradução. Seguem-se considerações sobre a autora e sobre o romance, bem como uma breve análise de pendor literário, que se orienta pelos códigos propostos por Vítor de Aguiar e Silva (2011). A encomenda de tradução e os recursos usados durante a sua prática são depois apresentados. Por fim, estão identificados e comentados alguns problemas de tradução, seguindo uma organização que os relaciona com os códigos literários expostos anteriormente. Entre este problemas, a título de exemplo, estão o da intertextualidade, o dos jogos de palavras, o dos lexemas compostos e o das formas de tratamento. Estão também apresentadas as dificuldades de tradução. A realização deste projeto permitiu reconhecer a importância do conhecimento sobre texto literário a traduzir, da encomenda de tradução e do que ela implica no ato tradutivo e ainda da comparação entre traduções do mesmo texto em outras línguas.

This project comprehends the Portuguese translation of two chapters of the novel Die größere Hoffnung, written by the Austrian author Ilse Aichinger, and the respective commentary. One of the criteria for the selection of this work was the fact that it has not been translated into Portuguese. The novel focuses on the experiences of a group of children during the Second World War that, presumably, take place in the city of Vienna. The experiences are approached from Ellen’s point of view, a child who is considered a Mischling by the Nuremberg Laws and who is forbidden to leave the country. Faced with this impossibility, Ellen develops a belief in a transcendent notion of hope, which enables her to cope with an upside-down world. This transcendent hope finds expression in a surrealistic language, close to dreams, which reflets the child’s world. In this strongly imagic language there are frequent comparisons and personifications. This project starts by outlining some theoretical aspects related to the literary text and to its translation. This is followed by considerations about the author and the novel, as well as by a brief analysis with a literary slant, guided by the codes proposed by Vítor de Aguiar e Silva (2011). The translation order and the resources used during its practice are then presented. Finally, some translation problems are identified and commented upon, following a structure that links them to the literary codes exposed above. These problems include, for example, intertextuality, wordplay, compound lexemes and forms of address. The difficulties of translation are also presented. The realization of this project allowed us to recognize the relevance of the knowledge about the literary text to be translated, of the translation order and what it implies in the translation act, and also of the comparison between translations of the same text in other languages.
