"Estamos a reinventar-nos": trabalhadoras domésticas assalariadas em Moçambique e a covid-19

Abstract

Neste texto analiso o impacto socioeconómico da CoVID-19 na vida das trabalhadoras domésticas em Moçambique. A partir da análise do Decreto 40/2008 de 26 de Novembro, percebem-se múltiplas lacunas legislativas que legitimam as violências a que as/os trabalhadoras/es domésticas/os estão sujeitas/os, em particular, as mulheres que por razão do seu sexo e género são culturalmente vulneráveis. Argumento, com base nos depoimentos das trabalhadoras sindicalizadas e não sindicalizadas que as medidas de combate e protecção à CoVID-19 quando aplicadas em situação de vulnerabilidade e precariedade laboral e social tornam-se violentas, injustas e acentuam a pobreza, sobretudo no sector informal, onde se encontram estas trabalhadoras. Mostro que, apesar desses problemas, elas reinventam a vida e se o governo e o país prestassem atenção às suas lutas talvez percebessem a direcção das políticas públicas necessárias por implementar tanto para a dignificação do trabalho e da vida delas como para o combate à pandemia.

In this text I analyze the socio-economic impact of CoVID-19 on the lives of domestic workers in Mozambique. From the analysis of the decree 40/2008 of 26 November, multiple legislative gaps can be perceived, which legitimize the violence to which domestic workers are subjected, particularly women who, due to their sex and gender, are culturally vulnerable. I argue, based on the testimonies of unionized and non-unionized women workers that measures to combat and protect CoVID-19 when applied in a situation of vulnerability and labour and social precariousness become violent, unfair and accentuate poverty, especially in the informal sector, where these workers are found. I show that despite these problems, they reinvent their lives and if the government and the country paid attention to their struggles they might understand the direction of the public policies that need to be implemented both to dignify their work and their lives and to combat the pandemic.
