A Envolvente do Castelo de Monsanto. Uma proposta de intervenção.

Abstract

O Castelo de Monsanto, localizado em Idanha-a-Nova, é uma referência na região da Beira Baixa pela relação que estabelece entre o natural e o construído, de caráter geomorfológico, que se estende ao longo da encosta até ao atualaglomerado urbano de São Salvador, com o qual tem uma ligação umbilical. Recentemente, a aldeia de Monsanto tem sido alvo de ações de planeamento urbano por parte da Autarquia, assim como o seu Castelo, classificado como monumento nacional e intocável desde as campanhas de obras realizadas pela Direcção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais (DGEMN). Contudo, a sua zona envolvente, dotada de um valor patrimonial excecional, foi esquecida, realidade que pode também ter sido fruto da sua inclusão na Zona Especial de Proteção, fixada à época do Estado Novo. A envolvente do Castelo de Monsanto albergou o primeiro aglomerado urbano, mas está há muito abandonada. Constitui-se, por isso, pertinente e atual estudá-la. É aí que se encontram distribuídas pequenas estruturas, em ruínas, algumas de caráter arqueológico que importam ser repensadas e reintegradas numa estratégia de valorização na relação com a aldeia, o Castelo, e a paisagem. A partir deste contexto, apresenta-se uma proposta que encontra na história da encosta do Castelo o leitmotiv para a criação de um projeto que pretende aproximar o núcleo urbano atual do espaço onde outrora se instalou a primitiva povoação. A construção de novos edificios, a recuperação de certas estruturas patrimoniais e a criação de um percurso, que tem por objetivo unir os espaços importantes, permitirá, aos habitantes e aos novos visitantes, a fruição completa da envolvente do Castelo de Monsanto.

The Monsanto Castle, located in Idanha-a-Nova, has been a reference in the region of Beira Baixa, by the relation between the natural and the built,of geomorphologic character, that stretches along the hillside to the urban agglomeration of São Salvador, with witch it has an umbilical connection. Recently, the village of Monsanto has been target of urban planning actions by the Municipality, so has the Castle, classified as national monument and untouchable since the works carried by the Direcção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais (DGEMN). However, its surroundings, gifted in exceptional patrimonial value have been forgotten, reality that could have been fruit of its inclusion in the Special Protection Zone, delimited at the time of Estado Novo. The surroundings of Monsanto’s Castle has the first urban cluster, but is long abandoned. Therefore, is pertinent and current to study it. It is there that small devoluted structures are distributed, some of them with archaeological character, which need to be rethought and reintegrated in a strategy of valuing the relationship with the village, the Castle and the landscape. Against this background, here is presented a proposal that finds in the history of the hillside of the Castle the leitmotiv to the new project that intends to approach the actual urban core to the space where the old primitive village once settled. The construction of new buildings, the recovery of heritage structures and the creation of a route that unify all the important spaces, will allow the inhabitants and new visitors, to fully enjoy of the surroundings of Monsanto’s Castle.
