Relatório de Estágio em Geriaria

Abstract

O envelhecimento da população é um fenómeno mundial e progressivo com uma repercussão obvia nos serviços de saúde. A Geriatria tem como objetivo fundamental acompanhar as pessoasidosas neste processo de envelhecimento, estudando e prevenindo as doenças e optimizando aqualidade de vida, tanto dos idosos, como dos seus cuidadores famílias. O presente relatório diz respeito ao estágio observacional, integrado no Mestrado em Geriatriada Faculdade de Medicina de Coimbra, que realizei no Centro Hospitalar e Universitário deCoimbra (Serviço de Medicina Interna – Enfermaria C; Consulta Externa de Geriatria e UniESA -Unidade Integrada para o Envelhecimento Saudável e Ativo), bem como no Hospital SãoFrancisco Xavier (Serviço de Medicina Interna – Unidade de Ortogeriatria e Consulta Externa deGeriatria), com a duração total de 400h.Durante o estágio observacional, nos diferentes serviços tive a oportunidade de acompanharmédicos com a competência em geriatria, nomeadamente a Dra. Benilde Barbosa, a Dra. SofiaDuque e o Dr. Hélder Esperto, a quem muito agradeço pelos conhecimentos que me transmitiram.Integrei equipas multidisciplinares e tive a oportunidade de fazer frequentemente a avaliaçãogeriátrica global, gestão da multimorbilidade, polimedicação e prevenção de iatrogeniafarmacológica e não farmacológica, sugerir o diagnóstico e tratamento de síndromes geriátricos,priorizar os problemas de saúde dos doentes idosos e fazer investigação em Geriatria. As pessoas idosas apresentam simultânea e muito frequentemente, problemas de naturezaeconómica e social, pelo que o auxílio de outros profissionais, nomeadamente enfermeiros,assistentes sociais, nutricionistas, fisioterapeutas e farmacêuticos pode contribuir para aavaliação holística dos doentes e suas famílias/cuidadores.

Population aging is a worldwide and progressive phenomenon with an obvious impact on health services. Geriatrics has the fundamental objective of accompanying the elderly people in thisaging process, studying and preventing diseases and optimizing the quality of life of them, theircaregivers and their families.This report concerns the observational internship, integrated in the Master's Degree in Geriatricsat the Faculty of Medicine of Coimbra, which I conducted at the Hospital and University Center ofCoimbra (Internal Medicine Service - Ward C; External Consultation of Geriatrics and UniESA -Integrated Unit for the Healthy and Active Aging), as well as at the São Francisco Xavier Hospital(Internal Medicine Service - Orthopedics and Geriatric Outpatient Unit), with a total duration of 400hours.During the observational internship, in the different services I had the opportunity to accompanydoctors with competence in geriatrics, namely Dr. Benilde Barbosa, Dr. Sofia Duque and Dr.Hélder Esperto, to whom I am very grateful for the knowledge that they transmitted to me.I´ve integrated multidisciplinary teams and had the opportunity to make a global geriatricassessment, multimorbidity management, polymedication and prevention of pharmacological andnon-pharmacological iatrogeny, suggest the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric syndromes,prioritize the health problems of the elderly patient and do research in Geriatrics.Elderly people often have problems of an economic and social nature at the same time, so thehelp of other professionals, namely nurses, social workers, nutritionists, physiotherapists andpharmacists, can assist in the holistic assessment of patients and their families / caregivers.
