The search for the development of new materials and technologies has stimulated two differentsituations. At the same time that it seeks to advantage the use of areas caracterized by soils withweak geotechnical characteristics (low resistance and high deformability), it also seeks toreduce the amount of waste and pollutants, in a sustentable perspective. The use of the soilcement-fiber mixture has increasingly found its use as satisfactory, resulting in a composite thatcan satisfy both imposed situations. This dissertation aims to evaluate the mechanical behavior of natural and synthetic fibers, randomly distributed, used as reinforcement in a granular soil, chemically stabilized withcementitious binder, under static and dynamic loading actions. The tensile strength andextension properties are evaluated in unconfined conditions. For this, diametrical compressiontests (monotonic and cyclic) are performed, estimating the influence of fiber type used, as wellas the influence of the cementitious binder dosage on the behavior of the soil reinforced withnatural fibers. For reinforcement, Sisal fibers (natural) and Polypropylene fibers (synthetic)were used, with equal lengths (12mm), and equal dosages in relation to dry weight of the soil(10kg/m³). Portland cement CEM I 42.5 R was used for chemical stabilization, with twodifferent dosages in relation to dry weight of the soil (175kg/m³ and 125kg/m³). Both elementswere used separately and together, to improve the properties of a soil characterized as badlygraduated sand.Based on results obtained, it can be concluded that, whatever the type of fiber added in thecement mixture causes an increase of ductility in the composite material, as well as a gain inenergy absorption based on its residual strength. Synthetic flexible fibers add greater quality tothe ductile behavior of the material, in the post-rupture behavior. Natural rigid fibers, behavedmore satisfactorily after the cyclic loads, since the maximum tensile strength and the maximumrupture extension of the composite material were increased.eng
