Paço de Tavarede: Uma reabilitação alternativa

Abstract

A história do Paço de Tavarede remete-nos para o séc. XVI. A obra consiste numa habitação senhorial construída pela família Quadros, de dois pisos, que se desenvolve num quadrilátero irregular ligado por um torreão em torno de um pátio. A partir de um trabalho de investigação histórica, realizado em grupo, para a disciplina de História da Arquitetura Portuguesa, definimos cinco fases hipotéticas de evolução: o manuelino, o barroco, o neomanuelino, a ruína depois de 1985 e o estado atual pós-reabilitação.Na sequência desse trabalho, surge a possibilidade de realizar como exercício final de curso um projeto base para o Paço de Tavarede, numa proposta alternativa ao projeto e à obra concluída em 2004 e que o converteu numa repartição camarária e uma pequena zona de exposição.Surge a questão: qual a pertinência de intervir num edifício que foi reabilitado há 16 anos? Penso que a intervenção realizada atribui uma função inadequada ao imóvel, não respeita a sua história e descaracteriza-o, porque obstrui parcialmente a leitura do pátio e compartimenta em demasia os espaços. Por outro lado, a nova função não permite a visita integral por parte do público geral, como resultado de uma política pouco viável no uso do património, resultando num empobrecimento cultural.Concluindo, numa análise critica à última intervenção e com a base histórica especulativa sobre os desenhos fornecidos pela Câmara Municipal, pretendo restituir a leitura do Paço antes da ruína e assim reconverter esta repartição camarária numa biblioteca para o usufruto do edifício, pelos demais.

The history of Paço de Tavarede dates back to the XVI century. The first construction, carried out by the Quadro’s family, was composed by a two floored manor house which unfolds within an irregular four-sided plan coupled with a turret surrounding a court. In order to understand the evolution of this building, five main stages were primarily determined: the Manueline, the Baroque, the Neo-Manueline, the ruin after 1985 and the current state after the rehabilitation. These emerged from a historic research carried out in group for the course of History of Portuguese Architecture. As a result of this group work arises the possibility of conducting a baseline project for the Paço de Tavarede as the subject of this Master Degree’s Dissertation. This prospect seeks to provide an alternative proposal to the one completed in 2004 which converted the building into both a town hall division and a small exhibition area. A question therefore surfaces: what is the aim of an intervention in a building subject of similar work 16 years ago? The inadequacy of the ascribed function, the inconsideration for the local history which in turn strips it from its original characteristics by partially obstructing the perception of the court and the overcompartmentalization may altogether form an answer. Furthermore, the new function doesn’t allow the public a full tour of the site as a consequence of a poorly managed use of the heritage which results in a cultural impoverishment. In conclusion, through a critical analysis of the previous intervention in addition to the speculative historic knowledge of the technical drawings provided by the city council ensued an intent to restore and reinterpret the pre-ruin concept of the Paço de Tavarede and this way reconvert the city hall division into a library for enjoyment of the crowds.
