Conservação Preventiva: o caso da coleção etnográfica da Diamang do Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio intitulado “Conservação Preventiva: o caso da coleção de etnografia da Diamang do Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra” consiste na apresentação do trabalho executado durante os seis meses de estágio na coleção de Antropologia do Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra, na vertente de “Estágio/Relatório” do 2º ano do Mestrado em Patrimônio Cultural e Museologia, no âmbito de Museologia. O trabalho deste período foi centrado em desenvolver dois objetivos principais: um estudo sobre o acervo de etnografia da antiga Companhia de Diamantes de Angola, elucidando alguns pontos da história da coleção e da recolha deste conjunto e sua trajetória, e um enfoque na necessidade de uma boa conservação deste patrimônio colonial, destacando o método da conservação preventiva, método este que prioriza medidas anteriores à restauração, visando diferentes ações para um melhor acondicionamento das coleções e para o desenvolvimento da estabilidade material dos acervos. Estes objetivos foram trabalhados através tanto de uma investigação histórica, quanto de uma avaliação qualitativa e quantitativa da coleção, aliada à aplicação de diferentes técnicas, tendo sempre em mente o benefício da coleção, visando explorar a responsabilidade da política de conservação que cada e qualquer instituição museológica se dispõe a cumprir. Além disso, este trabalho procura abordar um conjunto de temas subjacentes, nomeadamente: o valor do patrimônio cultural; a relevância da conservação; as responsabilidades da área de conservadoria e museologia.

This internship report entitled “Preventive Conservation: the case of Diamang's collection of ethnography at the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra” consists of the presentation of the work done during the six months of internship at the Anthropology Center of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra, in the area “Internship / Report” from the 2nd year of the Master's in Cultural Heritage and Museology, on the branch of Museology.The work of this period was focused on developing two main objectives: a study on the ethnography collection of the former Angola Diamond Company, elucidating some points about the history of the collection and the gathering of this set and its trajectory, and the focus on the need for a good conservation of this colonial heritage, highlighting the preventive conservation method, a process that prioritizes taking actions prior to restoration, proposing different ways for the better conditioning of the collections and for the development of the material stability.These objectives were worked through both a historical investigation and a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the collection, combined with the application of different techniques, always aiming for the benefit of the collection,in order to explore the responsibility of the conservation policy that each and every museological institution is willing to comply with. In addition, this work seeks to discuss a set of underlying themes, namely: the value of cultural heritage; the relevance of conservation; the responsibilities of the area of conservation and museology.
