A avaliação da informação científica: das métricas tradicionais às complementares.

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo geral proceder a uma revisão da literatura sobre as métricas tradicionais e alternativas e a aplicação destas últimas em repositórios institucionais em Portugal. Para cumprir o objetivo desta dissertação foi efetuada uma recolha em bases de dados como a Web of Science, Google Scholar, Library and Information Science Source da EBSCO e ainda na ResearchGate, foram identificados no Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto em Portugal (RCAAP) os repositórios de Instituições de Ensino Superior que usavam ferramentas altmétricas com o objetivo de realizar uma mini-entrevista com três questões dirigida aos gestores desses três repositórios. Num primeiro momento deste trabalho procedeu-se a uma revisão da literatura sobre a Bibliometria visando descrever o seu desenvolvimento, passando por uma breve síntese das principais leis bibliométricas (Lotka, Bradford e Zipf) documentando e caracterizando a importância desta área, bem como o levantamento de alguns indicadores que descrevem o desempenho científico em diferentes níveis (autor, revistas e artigos) e, por fim referenciadas as principais bases de dados bibliométricas: Web of Science, Scopus e Google Scholar. Num segundo momento foi também feita uma revisão de literatura sobre a Altmetria, uma métrica complementar à tradicional, que recorre às plataformas da Web Social para a recolha de dados. A mini-entrevista aplicada aos Repositórios Institucionais de Ensino Superior em Portugal permitiu perceber que estas ferramentas são uma mais-valia quer para os repositórios quer para os investigadores e/ ou utilizadores, uma vez que dão mais visibilidade à ciência, aproximando esta da sociedade. Os resultados desta pesquisa poderão servir como um alerta para dar a conhecer estas ferramentas e incentivar outros repositórios a incorporá-las.

The main goal of the present dissertation is to proceed a literature review on the traditional and alternative metrics and the application of those in institutional repositories in Portugal. To fulfill the objective of this dissertation, a collection was carried out in databases such as EBSCO's Web of Science, Google Scholar, Library and Information Science Source and ResearchGate, the repositories were identified in the Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto em Portugal (RCAAP) of Higher Education Institutions that used altmetric tools in order to conduct a mini-interview with three questions addressed to the managers of these three repositories. In the first moment of this work, a literature review on Bibliometrics was carried out in order to describe its development, going through a brief synthesis of the main bibliometric laws (Lotka, Bradford and Zipf) documenting and characterizing the importance of this area, as well as the survey of some indicators that describe scientific performance at different levels (author, magazines and articles) and, finally, referenced the main bibliometric databases: Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. In a second step, a literature review was also carried out on Altmetrics, a metric complementary to the traditional one, which uses Social Web platforms for data collection. The mini-interview applied to the Institutional Repositories of Higher Education in Portugal allowed us to realize that these tools are an asset both for the repositories and for researchers and / or users, since they give more visibility to science, bringing it closer to society. The results of this research may serve as an alert to raise awareness of these tools and encourage other repositories to incorporate them.
