Estratégias de verificação e confirmação da informação no Record

Abstract

This Internship Report was made within the scope of the study plan for the Master’s degree in Journalism and Communication at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra and refers to the curricular internship made in Record between September 2, 2019 and April 5, 2020. The internship lasted six months, after Record proposed to extend it in December, with the agreement of the University of Coimbra. In addition to personal internship experience, the report addresses the problem of verification and confirmation of information. The development of this theme started from the impression, on writing the first news, that this was a task with two inseparable responsibilities: the journalistic work of search, filter, distinguish and select information, on the one hand, and transmitting true and reliable content that readers can find and trust on Record website and in the paper edition, on the other hand. This awareness aroused the curiosity to understand how journalists apply these variants in their daily work on a newspaper like Record, specialized in sports, that assumes itself as leader in the segment of sports newspapers. At this level, the role of a journalist becomes essential, especially when operating in an environment with few means, pressures and where information circulates immediately. The journalist is the mediator who brings the topics he deals with to readers who read his texts, the responsibility is his for good, when he is rigorous and serious in this treatment, but also for the bad, when he makes a mistake in the transmission of information. In this sense, this report proposes the reflection about objectivity, verification, the relationship between journalists and sources of information, how the journalist should honestly admit the mistake and what characteristics and qualities must be assimilated and performed by journalists in their work.

O presente Relatório de Estágio foi realizado no âmbito do plano de estudos do Mestrado em Jornalismo e Comunicação na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra e reporta-se ao estágio curricular realizado no Record entre 2 de setembro de 2019 e 5 de abril de 2020. O estágio teve a duração de seis meses, após o Record ter proposto prolongá-lo em dezembro, com o acordo da Universidade de Coimbra. Além da experiência pessoal de estágio, o relatório trata a problemática da verificação e confirmação da informação. O desenvolvimento deste tema partiu da impressão ao redigir as primeiras notícias de que essa tarefa traria duas responsabilidades indissociáveis: o trabalho jornalístico de procurar, filtrar, distinguir e selecionar informação, por um lado, e transmitir conteúdos verdadeiros e fidedignos que os leitores possam encontrar e confiar no site do Record e na edição em papel, por outro. Esta tomada de consciência despertou a curiosidade de perceber como os jornalistas aplicam estas variantes no seu trabalho diário na redação de um jornal como o Record, especializado em desporto, e que se assume como líder no segmento dos jornais desportivos. A este nível, o papel de um jornalista torna-se fundamental, ainda por mais quando se opera num ambiente com poucos meios, pressões e onde a informação circula de forma imediata. O jornalista é o mediador que faz chegar os temas que trata aos leitores que leem os seus textos, a responsabilidade é dele para o bem, quando é rigoroso e sério neste tratamento, mas também para o mal, quando erra na transmissão da informação. Neste sentido, este relatório propõe-se refletir sobre temáticas em torno da objetividade, verificação, relação dos jornalistas com as fontes de informação, como deve o jornalista admitir o erro com honestidade e que caraterísticas e qualidades devem ser assimiladas e executadas pelos jornalistas na realização do seu trabalho.
