What makes the unity of art? The difficulty represented by this question will take us through different philosophical regions, those of Kant and Schelling. We will organize their visit around a central theme: the man. The artworks that he never stops sowing on his way have at least one thing in common: they are all designed by him. The answer is clear but disappointing. We will see what this clarity hides under the skin of what it makes visible. No doubt art is a human affair, but how do we do it? And does this "how" itself conceal any unity? Kant and Schelling make man the heart of art, one like that from which beauty can be apprehended, the other as the source of an art in his image. Freedom combined with genius allows works to flourish, we will question this unusual union and observe its trace in the productions which it allows to achieve. We will have to follow the path leading works from the state of idea to existence to understand how they are linked to their origin. Can we speak of a way of birth common to art in its entirety? Circulating among the remnants of the concrete is not enough to answer, we will have to take a look at the principle from which it draws its strength. Art cannot be considered independently of the universe from which it is born. Each work is dated, inscribed in history, in the same way as whoever considers them. However, it traces an area where the absolute appears, otherwise philosophy would have nothing to do with it. We will have to go through the notion of symbol in order to understand what makes it specific. Man represents for art a form in which it can flourish, and his limits are for him the opportunity to rise to universal dimensions. During the ancient and modern period, along the different practices: music, painting, architecture, sculpture and the variety of poetic expressions: lyrical, epic and tragic, we will explore the modulations of the same tune according to the Whole. Can we still perceive, through certain recent forms of art, the echo of this eternity? We will pay attention to this question, by listening to the 1960s, which were the cradle of the Fluxus movement. Man then begins to consider how can art could get rid of any kind of objects and follow universal rhythme to exalt it in return, without ever seeking to freeze it in a lifeless form. Can the system developed by Schelling continue to tell us relevant things about what its author could not have known? This is what we will find out.
