It is well known that sport is beneficial for the human being, but there are situations caused by its pratice that can exceed the physical limits of the body resulting in possible injuries. The purpose of this dissertation is to study the influence of the basketball experience in the vibrations felt in the hand-arm system, using the standard ISO 5349, as well as its relation with the muscular activity in the biceps and the triceps. In this study, 15 Portuguese basketball federated athletes were selected. They are enrolled in a Coimbra basketball team and were volunteers. The athletes were splited into 3 groups according to the number of years of practice they had. The movements on which this thesis focused were the pass and reception. To measure the vibrations, a sport glove was used, where a specially designed support was used to couple an accelerometer, thus obtaining the values of the acceleration felt in the hand-arm system. In the case of electromyography, surface electrodes were used in the target muscles. These electrodes were responsible for obtaining the time of muscular activation and the percentage of muscular activation in comparison to the maximum voluntary contraction. Since the study involves humans, ie, it is difficult to have two movements exactly alike, seven repetitions were performed per athlete in order to reduce this variability. The results were analyzed with the IBM SPSS Statistics program. Regarding the results and conclusions of this dissertation it is possible to verify that the vibrations felt by the hand-arm system are smaller in the group with more experience. It is also observed that in this more experienced group the difference in the value of the accelerations between the right hand and the left hand are more pronounced than in the less experienced groups. For electromyography, it is possible to observe a similar activation time comparing the left side with the right, and this similarity is less significant in the third group. For the percentage of muscular activation it is observed that the most requested muscle is tricípite. In the third group there was a great increase of the activation in the biceps in relation to the other groups, being able to explain the decrease of the vibrations felt.
