Projeto CIS: Centro Interpretativo da Sofia

Abstract

Este Projeto pretende contribuir em primeiro lugar para a valorização e consequente proteção do edificado colegial da Rua de Santa Sofia, em Coimbra, mandada edificar em 1535 pelo rei D. João III com o intuito de desempenhar funções como campus universitário. Rua essa que hoje, vê o seu património colegial num crescente estado de degradação e abandono, tendo a própria rua, vindo a assumir-se como uma artéria de desconhecimento quer para os turistas, que raramente por lá passam por falta de informação, quer para a comunidade que pouco sabe da sua história. A “cidade”, enquanto conceito, e as ruas que dela fazem parte continuam em pleno século XXI, a ser mal-entendidas por aqueles que com elas se relacionam diariamente. É, por isso, urgente alterar esta realidade explicando em primeiro lugar, à comunidade, a importância histórica e a singularidade arquitetónica do edificado colegial da Rua da Sofia. É importante mostrar a sua evolução temporal através de fotografia, maquetes ou vídeos, e como esta evoluiu e se transformou ao longo dos séculos numa artéria descaracterizada, pois só assim poderá haver por parte de todos uma vontade de inverter a situação, voltando a dar vida à “Sabedoria”. Surge aqui como solução para esta grande lacuna a criação de um Centro de Interpretação, que servirá antes de mais como mote de aproximação entre a comunidade e o seu património histórico e arquitetónico. É urgente educar mentalidades. É urgente trazer de novo vida à Sofia. E porque não implementar o CI na própria rua? Num edifício, também ele em crescente estado de degradação e que por si só é capaz de contar parte da história da imprensa em Coimbra, contribuindo também ele, para o dia a dia da Universidade. Para combater esta falta (re)conhecimento, aliamos ao Centro de Interpretação da Sofia – CIS - os conceitos de património cultural, memória, identidade e comunidade.

This project intends to contribute in the first place to the valorization and consequent protection of the collegiate building of Rua Santa Sofia, in Coimbra, it was commissioned in 1535 by King D. João III in order to perform university functions. Today, he sees his collegiate heritage in a growing state of degradation and abandonment. Having the street itself, becoming an artery of ignorance for tourists, who rarely go there for lack of information, or for the community that knows little about its history. The “city” as a concept, and the streets that are part of it, continue into the 21st century, to be misunderstood by those who deal with them daily. It is therefore urgent to change this reality by first explaining to the community the historical importance and architectural uniqueness of the collegial building of Rua da Sofia. It is important to show its temporal evolution through photography, mock-ups or videos, and how it has evolved and transformed over the centuries into an uncharacterized artery, because only then can there be a desire from everyone to reverse the situation, giving life again. Thus, as a solution to this gap arises the creation of an Interpretation Center, as a motto of approximation between the community and the historical and architectural heritage. It is urgent to educate mindsets. It is urgent to bring Sofia back to life.And why not implement CI on the street? In a building, which is also in a growing state of degradation and which alone can tell part of the history of the press in Coimbra, also contributing to the day to day life of the University.To combat this lack (knowledge), we have combined with the Sofia Interpretation Center - CIS the concepts of cultural heritage, memory, identity and community.
