Bertillonage na Universidade de Coimbra: Estudo museológico dos instrumentos cientificos da Bertillonage no MCUC

Abstract

O presente relatório foi elaborado com base nas atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio curricular nas reservas de antropologia do Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra. Este estágio teve como objetivo principal o estudo e posterior inventariação de uma parte da coleção dos instrumentos científicos de Antropologia Física da UC.Primeiramente, neste relatório é elaborado o contexto histórico do Museu da Ciência desde a sua criação, a separação e independência conseguida pelas diferentes áreas disciplinares - nomeadamente a secção de Antropologia -, e a nova junção como museu que existe hoje em dia com uma missão mais ambiciosa. De seguida realizei uma abordagem à museologia, tanto no contexto internacional como nacional, e uma abordagem também ao ICOM e ao seu Conselho de Museologia. Para terminar uma parte mais teórica do trabalho fiz uma contextualização de Alphonse Bertillon, do seu sistema de medições antropométricas e fotografia métrica e de como este sistema no âmbito da antropologia criminal era utilizado e aplicado em Coimbra.Passando à parte mais prática deste trabalho, explico antes de tudo a metodologia e as atividades desenvolvidas ao longo do estágio. Num novo capítulo faço referência ao processo de musealização e à sua importância, resumo as normas de inventário a aplicar em instrumentos da ciência e da técnica e por fim aplico isso na realização das fichas de inventário para os instrumentos. Para terminar faço o levantamento que foi possível de coleções semelhantes em outras instituições museológicas. Concluo este relatório com algumas considerações sobre este processo e algumas perspetivas futuras.

This report was written using as a basis the activities undertaken by me, during my internship at the anthropology department in the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra. This internship had as its principal objective the study and posterior inventorying of the scientific instruments belonging to the collection of Biological Anthropology of the UC.First and foremost, in this report is mentioned the historical context of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra since its creation, the independence obtained by the different areas of knowledge - namely the section of Anthropology - and its merge as a Museum in the state in which it exists today, with a far more ambitious mission. Thereafter I made an approach to the museology, both on a national and international level, I also approached the subject of ICOM and its Council of Museology. To finish the most theoretical part of the report I made a contextualization of Alphonse Bertillon works, namely his system of anthropometric measurements and metric photo and how this system was used and applied in the area of criminal anthropology in Coimbra.Now going to the most practical part of this report, first and foremost I explain the methodology and activities developed during the internship. In a new chapter, I talk about the process of musealization and its importance. I also summarize all the standards of inventory to apply in regard to scientific instruments and its techniques and I apply all the standards and techniques to the creation of catalogue records for the instruments. In the end, I conducted a survey of similar collections in other museum institutions. I finish this report with some considerations about the whole process and the expectations for the future.
