Relatório de Estágio do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas apresentado à Faculdade de Farmácia-
The culmination of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) requires the completion of a curricular internship, inserted in the study plan, in community pharmacy, as this is one of the most usual outings in the course and for the application to practical cases that it allows. The report prepared, in the form of SWOT analysis, aims to illustrate the curricular internship in community pharmacy that I carried out at Farmácia Lima Natário. My internship started on January 6, 2020 and ended on June 20, 2020 with a duration of 810 hours. In parallel, a monograph was developed under the theme "Bioactive compounds of red fruits a therapeutic alternative in the prevention and treatment of caries?". The oral cavity is colonized by hundreds of bacteria and other microorganisms. Among them stands out the bacterium Streptococcus mutans as the bacterium with high cariogenic potential. Caries is the oral disease that most affects the population worldwide, originates in the breakdown of oral microflora homeostasis and is caused by several factors. Bacteria are organized into structures called biofilms. Biofilms are organized structures of different species of bacteria and other microorganisms wrapped in a network of polysaccharides, proteins and DNA, and are responsible for most chronic and recurrent infections. All biofilms have a communication system called Quorum Sensing. This has a key role in the development of biofilm. Several compounds present in red fruits, particularly berries of Vaccinium macrocarpon and Vaccinium corymbosum and in fruits of Prunus cerasus L., have antimicrobial properties, as they interfere with the formation of biofilm and Quorum Sensing. These compounds are anthocyanidins, their glycosides, anthocyanins, and proanthocyanidins. In my opinion, these compounds will be a possible therapeutic alternative in the prevention and treatment of caries.eng
