Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Civil apresentada à Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia-
In recent decades, initiatives promoted at the social level, worldwide, demonstrate the growing concern in relation to environmental preservation. This concern is reflected in current European legislation, more precisely in the European directives 2010/31/EU (Energy and Performance of Buildings) and 2012/27/EU (Energy Efficiency). Most of the content of these regulations focuses on the construction sector, since in Europe about 40% of energy consumption and about 36% of CO2 emissions are related to buildings (Iannace et al., 2019).Conventional sources of energy, based on fossil fuels, are limited and polluting. These factors, coupled with the growing energy consumption in buildings over the years, accompanied by a continuous investment in renewable energies by governments, make the study of alternative energy sources an increasingly important topic nowadays. In 2018, renewable energies represented 18.9% of the energy consumption in Europe, intending to achieve 20% in 2020 (Eurostat, 2020). Portugal has set an ambitious target of reaching 47% for energy that comes from renewable sources, in 2030 (Governo de Portugal, 2019).In this context, the objective of this dissertation, in a first instance, is to characterize the European and Portuguese energy sector, presenting the existing energy policies. In a second instance, it is intended to present and characterize some existing renewable energies, as well as the different technologies that currently exist to take advantage of them. Finally, it will be calculated the contribution of renewable energy from various technological systems that can be applied to residential buildings, using the SCE.ER software, provided by General Direction of Energy and Geology, and the values obtained will be used to thermally calculate a residential building, using the REH methodology, varying several parameters involved in the calculation and recording its influence on the final energy balance.eng
