In recent years, the growing interest and investigation of organometallic complexes has gained increasing prominence mainly due to its fascinating versatility and numerous applications in which these compounds can be used. These compounds have electron donor atoms in their structure that allow coordination with different metals and thus allow different geometries. In particular, gold(I) complexes represent an emerging area of research, mainly due to their luminescent properties but also to the possible establishment of type interactions metal-metal Au(I) Au(I)- aurophillicity. The study carried out in this dissertation focused on the synthesis and complete characterization of the spectroscopic and photophysical properties of three new binuclear Au(I) complexes having as precursor ligand 4-methyl-7-(prop-2-in-1-yloxy)-1-benzopyran-2-one and with the incorporation of different bis(diphenylphosphine) spacers in order to investigate its luminescent properties and the possibility of exhibiting increased fluorescence emission by decreasing the contribution of the internal non-radioactive conversion process, dominant in coumarins. Within the processes that made it possible to increase the luminescence efficiency of these compounds, the emission of phosphorescence at room temperature (RTP), fluorescence delayed by thermal amplification (TADF or reversed intersystem crossing, rISC) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE). In a more applied perspective, it is intended that the development of stable molecules with increased luminescence efficiency can be applied in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).The fluorescence experiments in steady state and dynamic allowed to obtain the necessary photophysical data for the understanding of the different systems under study; this was done in five organic solvents and in binary solvent mixtures (acetonitrile:water). The effect of introducing different spacers (increasing the length of the aliphatic chain 2a:CH2; 2b:CH2–CH2–CH2 and the effect of stiffness with the insertion of a triple bond C≡C, 2c), which modifies the dominant conformation of the complexes in study and consequently the established intra- and inter- molecular interactions. All quantum yields were determined, including quantum fluorescence yield (F), quantum phosphorescence yield (P), and the quantum yield of oxygen singlet formation (∆) and lifetime of state deactivation processes excited (fluorescence, phosphorescence and triplet state lifetime). This allowed obtaining the radioactive (kF) and non-radioactive (kNR) rate constants that determine the deactivation of the excited state. The combination of these techniques, together with the dynamic light scattering (DLS), allowed to observe the presence of aggregates in the binuclear Au(I) complexes, confirming the presence of the AIE phenomenon in the intended compounds. Theoretical molecular orbital calculations (DFT and TD-DFT) were used as a tool in the rationalization of the observed behavior. One of the elucidated compounds (2a) was shown to have aurophilic interaction. Additionally, the absorption and fluorescence emission spectra were obtained in the solid state (in the form of film), in order to verify the interactions in the solid state and if they can be correlated with those observed in solution.
