Abstract: The nature of this study issues the importance of the navigability that once existed in the Mondego river, that caused an economic and demographic dynamic within Montemor-o-Velho. The main role of this council was to link the coast with the city of Coimbra and the inland region, giving it a strategic position for communication within and outside the region. This research seeks to present proposals to identify the situation of the ancient seaport, always referred to as of capital importance, but without a specific position. For this, we established a working methodology grounded primarily in bibliographical analysis, cartographic, geomorphological and archaeological prospects, which were essential to support hypotheses of location.
