When we talk about the role we represent as researchers, architects or planners, nobody should exclude the idea of society and its relations with the territories under study. The intervention on the issues of poverty has been the subject of several architectural studies and investigations; not only because it’s a challenging topic, but unfailingly for working on a growing deficiency around the world. The trip through Latin America served, not only as an inspirational base for the discovery of the subject, but also as a specific object of work, taking the form of Travel Journal and showing the most significant moments of the trip.A short documentary analysis about the way informal neighborhoods raised, consolidate and outcome - focused on the cases of the cities where I remained longer - brings us to the reporting of personal experiences in the Latin American territories. The ones where the absence of basic services is the most glaring lack.Step-by-step the visits turned into a quest for residential areas in the neighborhoods, and the subsequent reflection on the current functioning of the applied architectural experiences. The confrontation between both of them: what’s an informal neighborhood, in its genesis, and what is being or can be made to improve it, are the basics for the next approach on the traveling practice. The compared thoughts regarding the needs identified, the problem and the solution as methods that, learning from what already exists, may open a way to new and improved solutions.eng
