A identidade no bairro: Entre a resiliência e a transformação do espaço urbano

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo analisar a forma como a identidade de um bairro pode ser preservada a par da natural evolução da comunidade e ambiente construído que caracterizam esse mesmo espaço urbano. Neste sentido, procurar-se-á entender de que forma é que a metamorfose do edificado e as transformações nas vivências do espaço, ao serem fatores que caracterizam a identidade desse meio, a condicionam.Ao focar a escala do bairro como objeto de estudo e, tendo por base diversos autores que estudam o espaço urbano e a sua habitabilidade, apresentar-se-á uma matriz de análise que permite ler o bairro enquanto espaço global. Esta, pelas dimensões da estrutura urbana, funções e usos, e vivências do espaço, pretende interpretar os bairros pela sua composição e, consequentemente, concluir sobre a características identitárias de cada aglomerado urbano. Esta investigação abordará três bairros na cidade de Barcelona: Raval, Barceloneta e Sant Antoni, que serão analisados através da matriz proposta. Para além de uma interpretação individual e perceção das identidades singulares que se associam a cada espaço urbano, este estudo confrontará os três bairros destacando as suas disparidades e semelhanças.Espera-se, assim, concluir que a identidade é uma característica única que se define pelos elementos que caracterizam cada lugar, como o edificado e vivências existentes no espaço urbano. Analisando a componente teórica e prática da dissertação pretende-se, então, compreender de que forma é que a identidade de um espaço urbano se altera em função das características que a definem.

The present dissertation aims to analyse how the identity of a district can be preserved along with the natural evolution of the community and the built environment, which characterize this urban space. In this sense, we will try to understand in what way do the metamorphosis of the built space and the transformations in the experiences of that space, as factors that characterize the identity of this environment, condition it.Focusing on the scale of the district as an object of study and based on several authors that study the urban space and its habitability, a method of analysis will be presented which allows to comprehend the district as a global space. Making use of the dimensions of the urban structure, functions and uses, and experiences of the space, this methodology intends to interpret the districts using their composition and, consequently, to conclude on the factors that identify each urban agglomerate.This research will refer to three districts in the city of Barcelona: Raval, Barceloneta and Sant Antoni, which will be analysed by the proposed method. Beyond an individual interpretation and perception of the singular identities that are associated with each urban space, this study will confront the three districts, highlighting their disparities and similarities.It is hoped to conclude that identity is a unique characteristic that is defined by the elements that characterize each place, such as the built space and existing experiences in the urban space. Analysing the theoretical and practical component of the dissertation, we intend to understand in what way does the identity of an urban space changes in relation to the factors that define it.
