Pavilhões do Parque D. Carlos I, nas Caldas da Rainha: Uma proposta de intervenção

Abstract

O tema do presente projeto de dissertação enquadra-se no Seminário de Investigação The Beautiful Past, que tem como objetivo “compreender o território, a paisagem e o construído, nas suas mais diversas dimensões, escalas e terminologias, através do exercício do projeto” (Correia, 2017, p.2). Designadamente, interpretando, reutilizando e redesenhando alguns dos espaços que integram o projeto REVIVE – Reabilitação, Património e Turismo. De acordo com este programa: “o património imobiliário público constitui um componente relevante da identidade histórica, cultural e social do país, e um elemento rico e diferenciador para a atratividade das regiões e para o desenvolvimento do turismo” (REVIVE, 2017). Os Pavilhões do Parque D. Carlos I constituem um dos edifícios referência das Caldas da Rainha e são ao mesmo tempo uma peça de elevado grau de singularidade no contexto da História da Arquitetura Termal. Projetados entre 1890 e 1892, por Rodrigo Berquó, para receberem as áreas de internamento do Hospital Termal das Caldas da Rainha, nunca chegaram a exercer tal função. Este projeto de dissertação vai procurar repor a ligação perdida, respondendo simultaneamente ao seu propósito inicial e ao citado projeto REVIVE.A Associação das Termas de Portugal (A.T.P.) desenvolveu uma Rede de Termas a nível nacional, que estabelece três tipos de rotas que os aquistas podem usufruir: Charme, Histórica e Natureza. Atualmente as Termas das Caldas da Rainha encontram-se incluídas na Rota Histórica, mas ao integrar o programa de Hotel & SPA, que se propõe para os Pavilhões do Parque D. Carlos I, estas podem vir a ser incluídas tanto nas Rotas de Charme, pela beleza inerente ao edifício, como nas Rotas de Natureza¸ proporcionado pelo Parque D. Carlos I.

The theme of this dissertation project is a part of the Research Seminar “The Beautiful Past”, which aims to “understand the territory, its landscape and the built, in its most diverse dimensions, scales and terminologies, through the exercise of the project” (Correia, 2017,p. 2). In particular, through interpreting, reusing and redesigning some of the spaces that make up the project REVIVE - Reabilitação, Património e Turismo. According to this program: “public real estate is a relevant component of the country’s historical, cultural and social identity, and a rich and differentiating element for the attractiveness of local regions and the development of tourism” (Revive, 2017) The Pavilions of Dom Carlos I Park are one of the reference buildings of Caldas da Rainha and, at the same time, a singular piece in the History of Thermal Architecture. Designed between 1890 and 1892 by Rodrigo Berquó to receive the hospitalization areas of the Thermal Hospital of Caldas da Rainha, they never got to perform in their intended function. This dissertation project will seek to restore this lost connection, simultaneously attending to their initial purpose and to the quoted REVIVE project. The Portuguese Thermal Spa Association (A.T.P.) has developed a Network of Spas at national level, which establishes three types of routes that its users can enjoy: Charm, Historical and Nature. Currently, the Caldas da Rainha Thermal Spa is included in the Historic Route, but when integrating the program of Hotel & SPA, which is proposed for the Pavilions of Dom Carlos I Park, these can be included in the Charm Routes, for the inherent beauty of the building itself, as well as in the Nature Routes, provided by the Dom Carlos I Park.
