A expressão retórica clássica no Sermão pelo Bom Sucesso... um ato político ecumênico

Abstract

Manifestações e fenómenos relacionados com a história da humanidade estão ligados à linguagem, ao processo de comunicação, provocando questões de interesse científico e, essencialmente, epistemológico. A função social do clérigo Vieira, notório orador consagrado da língua portuguesa e indianista, defensor de causas politicossociais, vai além de uma simples atuação coadjuvante. O objetivo geral desse trabalho foi identificar a utilização de elementos de retórica clássica utilizados pelo Padre António Vieira no Sermão pelo Bom Sucesso das Armas de Portugal Contra as de Holanda. Como intelectual, o citado padre evidenciou, por meio do seu discurso, a ideologia subjacente que imperava naquele quadro social e político do período colonial, aquando da pronunciação do sermão que é exposto neste estudo pela teoria da análise discursiva, e analisado pelos elementos da retórica clássica. Para compreender melhor os objetivos específicos do trabalho foi necessária a realização de investigação biográfica do padre, suas obras e curiosidades, o que aproxima o locutor, enquanto elemento representativo do povo, do retrato de sua época. O citado Sermão se insere antes dos meados do século XVII, momento histórico, no qual o padre duvida da fé, ameaçando abandonar Deus, caso os holandeses dominassem as terras brasileiras. Para alcançar o objetivo geral, que é o de identificar os elementos de retórica clássica no Sermão em estudo, foi utilizada a metodologia Análise do Discurso Crítica (ADC) como o fio condutor para o entendimento dialógico da perspetiva político-religiosa, a fim de se ampliar a compreensão do discurso subjacente no Sermão. Buscou-se ainda detetar o uso do código pedagógico dos jesuítas, Ratio Studiorum, nos escritos do padre António Vieira e também a utilização dos Exercícios Espirituais de Loyola para identificar suas características humanísticas e parte da origem da sua criatividade, além da semiótica e da intertextualidade com as Escrituras Sagradas judaico-cristão. Foi feita uma pesquisa básica e exploratória, objetivando a identificação de elementos utilizados na retórica clássica nos escritos do citado padre. Optou-se pela abordagem qualitativa por meio da perceção da utilização de elementos de retórica clásssica nos textos do padre António Vieira. Por fim, foram tecidas considerações finais acerca da ratificação de utilização de elementos de retórica clássica utilizados pelo citado Padre.

Manifestations and phenomena related to the history of humanity are linked to language, to the process of communication, provoking questions of scientific interest and, essentially, epistemological. The social function of the cleric Vieira, a well-known orator of the Portuguese language, and an Indianist, defender of political and social causes, goes beyond a simple coadjuvant performance. The general objective of this work was to identify the use of elements of classical rhetoric used by Father António Vieira in the Sermon on the Good Success of the Arms of Portugal against those of the Netherlands. As an intellectual, the priest revealed through his discourse the underlying ideology that prevailed in that social and political framework of the colonial period when the sermon is pronounced, which is evaluated in this study by the theory of discursive analysis. To better understand the specific objectives of the work, a biographical investigation of Padre Vieira was necessary; his works and curiosities, which brings the speaker closer, as an element representative of the people, mirroring, notably, the portrait of his time. The Sermon is inserted in the middle of the seventeenth century, a historical moment, in which the saint doubts the faith, threatening to abandon God if the Dutch dominate the Brazilian lands. The Critical Discourse Analysis (ADC) methodology was used as the guiding thread for the understanding of the epistemological and dialogic perspective with the political-religious vision, in order to broaden the understanding of the scenario in which the aforementioned sermon was delivered. It was tried to detect the use of the pedagogical code of the Jesuits, Ratio Studiorum, in the writings of Father António Vieira and also the use of the Spiritual Exercises of Loyola to identify its humanistic characteristics and part of the origin of its creativity, besides the semiotics and the intertextuality with the Judeo-Christian Sacred Scriptures. A basic and exploratory research was done, aiming at the identification of elements used in classical rhetoric in the writings of the aforementioned priest. The qualitative approach was chosen through the perception of the use of elements of classical rhetoric in the texts of Father António Vieira. Finally, final considerations were made regarding the ratification of the use of elements of classical rhetoric used by the aforementioned Father.
