Introduction: Adolescents with Eating Disorders (ED) manifest difficulties in their emotional and sexual expression, as well as often have reduced interpersonal and affective relationships, which are factors that negatively influence their adaptability in a social context. Purpose: To identify the attitudes and beliefs about sexuality and sex education in a clinical population diagnosed with ED, namely Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and Bulimia Nervosa (BN) as well as to detect if these attitudes and beliefs are correlated with the way they compare themselves socially.Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study was performed between October and December 2018 in 30 adolescents aged 12 to 17 who attended the ED medical apointments at the Department of Pedopsychiatry Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Hospital Pediátrico – Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (HP-CHUC). Data collection was done through a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Questionnaire on Attitudes and Beliefs about Sexuality and Sexual Education (QACSES) and the Social Comparison Scale (SCS). Statistical analysis was performed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.Results: The respondents have, in general, positive attitudes and beliefs regarding sexuality and exhibit average values in relation to social comparison. Regarding the correlated variables, although no statistically significant differences were found in all dimensions of the scales, we generally found that, with increasing age, beliefs and attitudes about sexuality also become more positive and less limiting; the participants who have married parents have more positive beliefs associated with dating violence, gender and sexual behavior, and more positive and less limiting beliefs associated with the love relationship; and those who have a boyfriend/girlfriend have more positive beliefs about the love relationship. Regarding social comparison, we found that the adolescents who have a boyfriend/girlfriend and married parents obtained the highest scores. Given the correlation between the QACSES and the SCS, we found that adolescents with more positive beliefs associated with the love relationship rank higher up hierarchically, are considered more adjusted and accepted in relation to a social group and with better social attraction factors.Discussion and Conclusions: Considering the results, and despite the small number of participants, we can conclude that it is important to consider beliefs and attitudes about sexuality as an area of intervention that must be maintained, ever improving, bearing in mind a full sexual health of these young people, as well as their self-esteem, that should be worked out in the context of a multidisciplinary intervention in patients with ED.Keywords: Eating Disorders, Attitudes, Beliefs, Sexuality, Social Comparison
