Considering the importance of investigating the role of the media in construct problems and social issues, this research aims to understand how the Brazilian mainstream media constructed the knowledge about human papillomavirus (HPV) during the Brazil’s Ministry of Health campaign. In this study, we take a feminist perspective to analyze the media coverage about Brazilian HPV vaccination for five years (2014-2018). The corpus is based on online news of the three main Brazilian journals: Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo and O Estado de S. Paulo. We intend to find which patterns of representation of the virus HPV are developed, namely: who writes about the theme, who are visible on news, who are the principal sources, and which functions they play on news. In addition, we also identify discourse patterns which are pointed out on press coverage of HPV vaccination. The research examines which perspectives control the comprehension of HPV vaccination, as also how the binomial risk/prevention is articulated with gender and how subjectivities emerge from news. To answer these questions, we used two different methods of analysis that are connected. The first one is quantitative, content analysis, and the second is qualitative and involves Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). From the results achieved, it is discussed how the media coverage reproduce power over the female body and gender stereotypes, while at the same time a dominant political framing is elected for constructing the HPV vaccination.eng
