The study of the fatigue in structural components is quite important, being the more frequent mode of ruin. Normally it is studied based on da/dN-K curves, however, K is an elastic parameter and fatigue is a nonlinear elastic phenomenon, it is thought that this is not the most correct approach. The parameter used here to study fatigue is a parameter which contemplates the plastic deformation, the crack tip open displacement parameter, CTOD.In this dissertation the aim is to study the propagation of fatigue cracks in the 18Ni300 steel obtained by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and in the aluminum alloy 2024-T351. In addition, it is intended to make a brief study of the effect of circular notches in the 7050-T6 alloy, through CTOD analysis. For this, a numerical program of finite elements (DD3IMP) was used. A careful modeling of the elasto-plastic characteristics of the materials was carried out in order to obtain better results. The experimental results previously obtained in the 18Ni300 SLM steel indicated that cyclic plastic deformation may be the controlling mechanism. However, the CTOD analysis showed that a brittle behaviour also has a great influence, producing intergranular propagation. The heat treatment of this material decreases the fracture crack growth, indicating that the residual stresses play a significant role in the crack propagation velocity. The 2024-T351 aluminum alloy has a plastic deformation within the values obtained for other aluminum alloys. The model curve da/dN-p obtained in plain strain with five load cycles between propagations was used to predict the effect of the stress ratio variation.Regarding the notches in the 7050-T6 aluminum alloy, larger crack closure were observed the smaller the radius of the notch.
