The dental restoration is a solution for the recovery of the vital tooth after it has suffered from possible physical or chemical fractures. Given the wide variety of materials, restorations and adhesion types that can be used in dental restoration, several studies have been developed to reduce the possibility of rupture of the tooth restoration and improve its procedure. In the present dissertation will be presented the results of three numerical analyzes related to two types of approaches in the restoration of infragengival margins in the posterior region, inlay and onlay. In the numerical study, the CAD model of a first upper premolar was used. Later, the CAD models of tooth restoration were subjected to some modifications from Geomagic® CAD software. The simulations were developed based on ADINA® finite element software. For each numerical simulation the restored tooth was subjected to an increasing load of 500 N. The load was always applied in the center of the occlusal surface using a structure with the properties of a stainless steel, with an incidence of 30 degrees with respect to the central axis of the tooth (concentric force). In the first static analysis (linear), only the two restorations without any type of adhesive are compared. In the second quasi-static (non-linear) analysis, the results obtained from restoring the tooth in inlay with the insertion of a layer of adhesive in resin cement are evaluated. In the discussion of results a comparison is made between the two types of restoration, between the same type of restoration inlay, with and without adhesive, and finally with the insertion of the adhesive, with and without cohesive elements. With the results, it was possible to conclude that the two types of restoration analyzed have good capacity to withstand high stresses, however, the inlay restoration showed a higher loading capacity. The restoration in inlay with the resin cement showed a similar capacity to bear loads, when compared with the simulations with and without cohesive elements, although the difference.
