Estudo comparativo da Violência entre Parceiros Íntimos e Resolução de Conflitos entre estudantes do ensino superior das áreas de Ciências Sociais, Saúde e Engenharias

Abstract

The present research aims to identify the social representations of intimate partner violence in a sample of Portuguese students from the fields of Social Sciences, Health and Engineering. The research protocol was supplemented by 860 participants, completing a Sociodemographic and Complementary Data Questionnaire, the Revised Conflict Tactical Scales (The Revised Conflict Tactics Scales - CTS2, Alexandra & Figueiredo, 2006), the Conjugal Violence Questionnaire – Stories (QRVC-HIS, Alarcão, Alberto, Camelo, & Correia, 2007) and the Conjugal Violence Questionnaire - Causes, Maintenance and Resolution (QVC-CMR, Alarcão, Alberto, Camelo, & Correia, 2007). The social representations, some differences were found that could be related to the thematic difference of the courses under study. We also found a greater legitimacy of violent acts when it was a case of violence from the female element to the male element.The problem of IPV has been growing in recent years, a social issue that is increasingly relevant, considering that it is unacceptable to perpetrate some kind of violence on the one with whom we share intimate life, being much more than a gender issue, but above all, a matter of human dignity.This paper intends to compare the conflict resolution strategies used by higher education students in the areas of Social Sciences, Health and Engineering and also to understand their social representations about IPV.One important limitation to our work is the lack of research in this area, in which we intend to compare the different areas of higher study in the influence of social representations on IPV, which limits us in comparison with the work of other authors.Another limitation is related to gender disparity, since most of our respondents are female. Thus, it would be interesting to carry out a more robust future study with regard to the significance of the sample in relation to the sex variable.

A presente investigação tem como objetivo global identificar as representações sociais da violência entre parceiros íntimos numa amostra de estudantes portugueses de cursos das áreas de Ciências Sociais, Saúde e Engenharias. O protocolo de investigação foi completado por 860 participantes, preenchendo um Questionário Sociodemográfico e de Dados Complementares, as Escalas de Táticas de Conflito Revisadas (The Revised Conflict Tactics Scales - CTS2, Alexandra & Figueiredo, 2006), o Questionário de Violência Conjugal – Histórias (QRVC-HIS, Alarcão, Alberto, Camelo, & Correia, 2007) e o Questionário de Violência Conjugal – Causas, Manutenção e Resolução (QVC-CMR, Alarcão, Alberto, Camelo, & Correia, 2007). Relativamente às representações sociais, foram encontradas algumas diferenças que poderão estar relacionadas com a diferença temática dos cursos em estudo. Também encontrámos uma maior legitimação de atos violentos face à violência do elemento feminino sobre o elemento masculino.O problema da VPI tem vindo a crescer nos últimos anos, sendo uma questão social cada vez mais relevante, considerando-se inaceitável que se perpetue algum tipo de violência sobre aquele com quem partilhamos vida íntima, sendo muito mais do que uma questão de género, mas acima de tudo, uma questão de dignidade humana.Este trabalho pretendeu fazer a comparação entre as estratégias de resolução de conflitos utilizadas por estudantes do ensino superior das áreas de Ciências Sociais, Saúde e Engenharias e também compreender as suas representações sociais acerca da VPI.Há que referir uma importante limitação ao nosso trabalho: a inexistência de investigação nesta área, em que se pretende comparar as diferentes áreas de estudo superior na influência das representações sociais sobre a VPI, o que nos limita na comparação com o trabalho de outros autores.Outra limitação relaciona-se com a disparidade nos efetivos dos sexos, pois a maioria dos nossos respondentes é do sexo feminino. Assim, seria interessante realizar um futuro estudo mais sólido no que diz respeito à significância da amostra relativamente à variável sexo.
