The growth of urban areas has led to increasingly high noise levels and consequent degradation of quality of life. Resorting to constructive solutions with increased acoustic performance are used in façades to ensure adequate acoustic comfort. Portuguese legislation imposes that once the construction of the building is finished, the verification of the façade sound insulation be made by field measurement, in accordance with the ruling standards. Recently these standards have been reviewed in Europe with the publication of the three parts of ISO 16283 which establish the procedures for field measurements of sound insulation in buildings. The standard NP EN ISO 16283-3: 2017: “Acoustics — Field measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements — Part 3: Façade sound insulation” , the last part to be published in Portugal and to replace the NP EN ISO 140 -5, specifies procedures to determine the airborne sound insulation of façades, by field measurement. In this dissertation it is intended to briefly approach the differences introduced by the new standard. The global loudspeaker method of NP EN ISO 16283-3: 2017 provides for a series of procedures such as orientation and distances of the instrumentation from the façade, which cannot always be fulfilled due to limitations of space.Field measurements were carried out to compare results obtained in compliance to the new standard and the ones resulting from small deviations from the norm, for various positions of the instrumentation in the field. Therefore it is intended, only from tests carried out, to evaluate the differences in results obtained by complying with the standard and with slight deviations from it. Based on the analysis carried out, an alternative methodology was suggested, intended only for our case studies, and applied so that we could compare these results to those obtained fulfilling the standard NP EN ISO 16283-3: 2017.eng
