Revolução, história e memória – O 25 de Abril e os desafios da História Oral

Abstract

A complexidade do fenómeno revolucionário em geral (e igualmente do 25 de Abril de 1974 em Portugal) exige uma abordagem metodológica que ultrapasse as dificuldades e limitações da historiografia clássica. Neste contexto, a História Oral vem assumindo uma importância crescente (também em Portugal), mostrando que ficamos muito mais próximos do acontecimento revolucionário, se à memória histórica e aos seus principais garantes, os arquivos, juntarmos a memória individual. Se ao registo exaustivo de factos, nomes ou datas, juntarmos as vozes de quem viveu essa experiência única – dos principais protagonistas às figuras secundárias ou mesmo passivas – captamos ambientes, formas de pensar, valores, racionalidades e sensibilidades. É esse o grande desafio da História Oral, como pretendemos mostrar neste artigo.

In overall, the complexity of the revolutionary phenomenon (which also includes the 25th of April 1974 in Portugal) requires a methodological approach that goes beyond the difficulties and limitations of classical historiography. In this vein, Oral History is assuming a growing relevance (also in Portugal), conveying that one becomes much closer to the revolutionary event if to historic memory and its main warrantors (the archives), we also add individual memory. If to the exhaustive recording of facts, names or dates, one adds the voices of those who lived that unique experience (from the main protagonists to secondary, or even passive, actors), one will get a better grasp of environments, ways of thinking, values, rationalities, and sensibilities. This is the great challenge to Oral History, as argued in this article.
