Introduction: The Big Three Perfectionism Scale (BIG-3) is a new instrument developed by Smith, Saklofske, Stoeber e Sherry (2016), to study the perfectionism as a multidimensional personality trait, following a three second order factor model (Rigid perfectionism, Self-critical perfectionism, Narcisic perfectionism). The BIG-3 is the only self-report measure that evaluates the narcissist trait associated to perfectionism. It has shown good psychometric properties in its original (Canadian) and Iranian versions. Thus, it is of great interest to validate this scale in a Portuguese sample, in order to be used in our language and culture. Objective: To investigate the psychometric properties of the Portuguese Version of the BIG-3 using confirmatory factor analyses, more specifically to study its construct, concurrent and convergent-divergent validity as well as its fidelity (internal consistency and temporal stability).Method: A sample of 398 university students (68,5% females; mean age = 21.472.19; range: 17-32) answered the Portuguese preliminary versions of the BIG-3 and other validated instruments in Portuguese samples: Dirty Dozen, HEXACO-60, Hewitt & Flett Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale-13, Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Psychological Entitlement Scale, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales-21, Perfectionism Self-Presentation Scale and NEO Five Factor Inventory-20. To study the time stability, 163 students answered the BIG-3 after 2 months. Results: After correlating items errors, the second order model of the Portuguese version of BIG-3 presented a marginal acceptable fit (X²/df = 3.006; TLI = 0.788; CFI = 0.802; GFI = 0.745; RMSEA = 0.071). The three factors of the Portuguese version of BIG-3 showed acceptable to good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alphas ranging from .783 to .885) and temporal stability (r > .69, p < .001). The facets correlated positively and with high magnitude with the respective dimension. In general, Pearson correlations with other perfectionism measures were significant, positive and low to moderate. For the convergent-divergent validity we obtained expected correlations with the remaining scales.Discussion/Conclusion: This study has shown the good psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the BIG-3, and the model presented an acceptable marginal fit, which has an underlying three-factor model. Given the model fit indices, these findings should be interpreted with caution and it will be important to enlarge the sample size. Further research is needed to confirm this factor structure in other Portuguese samples.
