Eight out of the ten leading causes of death can be treated and/or prevented by means of specialized and adequate nutritional care. However, and in spite of being considered by a great majority of the population as one of the most trustworthy sources when it comes to getting information in the field of Nutrition, a great part of physicians recognizes not having satisfactory knowledge in this particular area, partly owing to the difficulty in acquiring nutritional knowledge throughout their course. Are Medicine Faculties providing suitable and enough formation when it comes to nutrition? Are Medicine students getting out of college with more nutritional knowledge than when they began the course? In this study, Nutritional knowledge was tested in first year and sixth year students of the master degree in Medicine, by filling in the Nutritional Knowledge Questionnaire (NKQ), and it was assessed if the differences between them were statistically significant. A representative sample of the population in study was gathered (n=215). It was found that sixth year students got, on average, higher scores than first year students (81,88% vs 69,85%; p<0,001) and there was no significant difference between the scores men and women achieved (74,04% vs 75,63%; p=0,366). Medicine Faculties ought to reconsider the nutritional education they are providing their students due to the impact that, in the future, these skills will have in the fight against the main diseases of the twenty-first century.eng
