Endometriosis, a benign gynecological disease defined as the presence of stroma and functional endometrial glands in extra-uterine placement, is an inflammatory and estrogen-dependent disease related to immune dysfunction. However, its etiopathogenesis is not completely understood and that is why this study is relevant. Researches were made with PubMed search engine, privileging review and scientific articles written in English and French and published between 2011 and 2016.Etiopathogenic phenomena involved can be as distinct as retrograde menstruation, lymphatic or vascular dissemination, coelomic metaplasia, hormonal changes, immune dysfunction, endometrial stem cells, abnormal uterine vasoconstriction and genetic predisposition. It is known that many of these events contribute to induce angiogenesis and cell proliferation, which are necessary to cause endometriotic lesions. As shown in this work, several theories have been supported and that must encourage us to believe that endometriosis is a multifactorial disease and that its physiopathology is complex and insufficiently clarified. The knowledge gathered while writing this thesis culminated with the suggestion of developing a formula that predicts the odds of having endometriosis. . .
