A Sexualidade na Deficiência Mental: Uma Revisão Bibliográfica

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo efetuar uma reflexão sobre o tema da Sexualidade na Deficiência Mental. Neste âmbito, realizámos uma revisão da literatura disponível sobre a temática da deficiência mental, no sentido de aprofundar conhecimentos sobre as suas características, diagnósticos e as necessidades no que concerne à vivência da sexualidade. Paralelamente, pretendemos desmistificar algumas das crenças erróneas, no âmbito da sexualidade, que permanecem nas representações mentais da maioria das pessoas. A metodologia adotada será a revisão sistemática da literatura a partir de fontes impressas e eletrónicas. Trata-se assim, de uma pesquisa não só de caráter bibliográfico, como a própria vivência enquanto profissional, tendo como objetivo compreender a dinâmica da sexualidade em pessoas com deficiência mental. Os trabalhos corroboram que os preconceitos, no campo da sexualidade, ainda estão presentes. A sexualidade é um dos aspetos que assume extrema relevância ao longo de toda a existência humana, incorporando parte integral da expressão da personalidade de cada indivíduo. Ao nível da vivência da sexualidade, verifica-se que as pessoas com deficiência mental se deparam, sistematicamente, com obstáculos, perante a sua integração social. Nota-se, contudo, que muito trabalho há por fazer no campo da sexualidade na deficiência mental, por parte não só da sociedade em geral, mas principalmente pelos profissionais que acompanham estes cidadãos, pessoas que querem e devem fazer parte de uma sociedade, mesmo com as suas diferenças, atendendo que, todo o ser humano tem direito inerente à vida e em condições de igualdade.

The present work aims at reflecting on the theme of Sexuality in Mental Deficiency. In this context, we reviewed the available literature on the subject of mental deficiency, in order to deepen knowledge about the characteristics, diagnoses and needs regarding the experience of sexuality. At the same time, we intend to demystify some of the erroneous beliefs in sexuality that remain in the mental representations of most people. The methodology adopted will be the systematic review of the literature from printed and electronic sources. It is thus a research not only of bibliographic character, but also the experience as a professional, aiming to understand the dynamics of sexuality in people with mental disabilities. The studies corroborate that the prejudgements in the field of sexuality are still present. Sexuality is one of the aspects that assumes extreme relevance throughout human existence, incorporating an integral part of the expression of the personality of each individual. At the level of the sexuality experience, it is verified that people with mental deficiency systematically face obstacles, before their social integration. Note, however, there is much work to be done in the field of sexuality in mental disability, not only by society in general, but mainly by the professionals who accompany these citizens, people who want and should be part of a society, even With their differences, given that every human being has the inherent right to life and on an equal basis.
