Plantas medicinais na gravidez e aleitamento

Abstract

A procura de plantas medicinais como alternativa aos medicamentos de síntese tem vindo a crescer, visto serem consideradas eficazes e inócuas no tratamento de diversas patologias. No entanto, estas características nem sempre correspondem à realidade, nomeadamente no que respeita à sua segurança durante a gravidez e o aleitamento, altura em que a mulher vê as suas alternativas farmacológicas reduzidas e recorre frequentemente a estes produtos. Deste modo, deparamo-nos com a necessidade cada vez mais urgente de estabelecer a segurança da fitoterapia nestes grupos, para que farmacêuticos e médicos possam decidir e aconselhar a administração de produtos à base de plantas de forma consciente e informada.

The search for medicinal plants as an alternative to synthesis medicines has been increasing, due to the fact of being considered effective and safe for the treatment of several pathologies. However, these characteristics are not always accurate, especially concerning its safety during pregnancy and lactation, when women find their pharmacological alternatives reduced and often resort to these products. Consequently, we come across the need to establish phytotherapy’s safety in these groups, so that pharmacists and physicians can make conscious and informed decisions concerning the intake of medicinal plants.
