dc.description.abstract | The scientific and technological advances in the recent decades allowed the paediatric oncology population’s survival rate considerable improvement. However, this success was achieved by using drugs specifically developed for adults, being inherent the lack of information and the appropriate pharmaceutical formulations that justify paediatric use. In fact, the need to establish strict criteria of quality, safety and efficacy of targeted medicines for the paediatric population was observed in all therapeutic areas. Aware of this reality, the European Union has undertaken a series of measures that culminated with the introduction of the Paediatric Regulation in 2007. Despite significant changes in the development of antineoplastic agents, the stakeholders expected a faster and more pronounced progress. The scientific community, in particular, has shown interest in solving certain limitations and unintended consequences identified in the Regulation, to improve the unsatisfactory situation that is still observed in Paediatric Oncology. | por |
