In this Master's thesis is analyzed the weld between two sheets of dissimilar materials, aluminum alloy AA6082-T6 and steel S355J2+N, performed using the process of Friction Stir Welding in lap joint, with three tool successive passages, something slight unexplored in the literature so far. Regarding the mechanical characterization, it was found that in shear tensile test specimens, plastic deformation occurred before rupture, in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of the third passage of the welding tool in the aluminum alloy, happening at the end of the test separation of both base materials, in a parallel plane to the interface between the welded plates. In the uniaxial tensile test, the specimen also suffered plastic deformation, not only in the HAZ of the third passage of welding tool, but also at the HAZ of the second tool passage proving the mechanical strength of the weld. In the fatigue test, the fracture occurred in all samples, in the Nugget the third passage of the tool. In metallographic and microstructural analysis, it was found that there are three weld Nuggets, more clearly seen in the aluminum alloy, and the bottom plate of steel was slight changed in their microstructure. In the analysis by SEM of interface surfaces of the base material was proven the poor penetration of the tool pin. Still using the analysis by SEM, it was found on the surfaces of fatigue fracture of the test pieces was mainly ductile rupture. In X-ray diffraction analysis, intermetallic compounds, a very common defect in welds of aluminum alloys e steels by Friction Stir Welding, were not detected.
