Fabienne Kanor e Toni Morrison, escritoras do Atlântico: escrever para transformar a vala comum em cemitério

Abstract

Este artigo visa estudar a representação do corpo da mulher escrava assim como da pós-memória do sofrimento decorrente do tráfico negreiro em dois romances, Beloved (T. Morrison) e Humus (F. Kanor). Numa primeira parte, questiona os modos de repre­sentação do corpo escravizado e os limites da abordagem histórica para dar conta do trauma. Na segunda parte, o artigo incide sobre a representação específica do corpo da mulher nos dois romances de maneira a evidenciar o modo como as escritoras arti­culam o retorno ao passado e a sua encenação. Este trabalho comparatista no espaço metafórico do Atlântico pretende igualmente contribuir para uma redefinição das fron­teiras literárias.

This article studies the representation of the body of the slave girl and the post-memory of the suffering caused by the slave trade in two novels, Beloved (T. Morrison) and Humus (F. Kanor). The first section of the article questions the modes of represent­ing the enslaved body as well as the limits of historical approaches to accounting for trauma. In the second part, the article focuses specifically on the representation of the woman’s body in the two novels in order to highlight the way in which the writers articulate and stage the return to the past. This comparative essay— conducted within the metaphorical space of the Atlantic and the interdisciplinary field of Atlantic stud­ies—also aims to contribute to a redefinition of the boundaries of literature.

Cet article vise l’étude de la représentation du corps de la femme esclave et la postmé­moire de la souffrance issue de la traite négrière dans les romans Beloved (T. Morrison) et Humus (F. Kanor). Nous interrogeons, dans une première partie, les modes de repré­sentation du corps de l’esclave et les limites de l’approche historique pour rendre compte du trauma. La seconde partie traite de la représentation spécifique du corps de la femme dans les deux romans pour mettre en évidence la façon dont les écrivaines articulent le retour au passé et sa mise en scène. Ce travail comparatiste dans l’espace métaphorique de l’Atlantique prétend contribuer également à une redéfinition des frontières littéraires.
