A evolução da citação na Revista Portuguesa de Medicina Geral e Familiar

Abstract

Introdução: A Revista Portuguesa de Medicina Geral e Familiar (Revista) é a publicação médica de língua portuguesa mais lida em Portugal e a mais prestigiada da área. Assim sendo, é importante conhecer a evolução da referenciação bibliográfica de artigos já publicados noutros números da Revista, bem como o tempo de edição e as características dos autores. Objetivos: Medir o tempo de edição entre a receção e aceitação para publicação, avaliar a distribuição geográfica dos artigos e dos autores, avaliar o tipo de autores que publicam na Revista e medir a citação bibliográfica de artigos já publicados na Revista e de artigos nacionais. Comparar os valores de citação obtidos com os já existentes. Tipo de estudo: Estudo observacional, transversal e descritivo. Materiais e Métodos: Revisão sistemática de todos os números da Revista no período de 2009 a 2015 quanto ao tipo de artigo e autores, origem geográfica dos autores e artigos, tempo de edição dos artigos, número total de referências bibliográficas, número de referências bibliográficas de artigos publicados em Portugal e número de referências bibliográficas de artigos já publicados na Revista. Comparação dos níveis de citação obtidos com os já existentes. Resultados: Entre 2009 e 2015, em 630 artigos, 50% tem internos como autores, 50,8% não possui qualquer especialista de Medicina Geral e Familiar e 19,5% tem pelo menos um autor externo à área. Ainda, 43% dos artigos provêm da ARS Norte e 41,9% da ARS Lisboa e Vale do Tejo. O tempo de edição dos artigos é 203±156 dias. As referências totais nos artigos publicados foram de 12,0±11,2, as de artigos publicados em Portugal de 2,4±3,0 e as de artigos publicados nesta Revista de 0,6±1,2. As dinâmicas de 6 crescimento relativamente aos resultados anteriores são negativas para referências da Revista (-33,3), para referências portuguesas (-14,3) e para referências totais (-28,6). Discussão e conclusões: O tempo de edição dos artigos é demasiado longo. Os autores da ARS Norte e Lisboa e Vale do Tejo são responsáveis pela produção de 84,9% dos artigos. Os valores de citação encontrados são baixos e com dinâmicas de crescimento negativas em relação aos anteriores. Parece ser necessário manter os esforços no sentido de incentivar a leitura e citação da Revista para suporte à realização de trabalhos e sua discussão.

Background: The Revista Portuguesa de Medicina Geral e Familiar (Portuguese Journal of General Practice) is the most widely read medical publication in Portugal and the most prestigious in the area. Therefore, it is important to know the evolution of bibliographical referencing of articles already published in other issues of the journal, as well as the editing time and the characteristics of the authors. Objectives: Measure the lag time between the reception and acceptance of an article for publication, evaluate the geographic distribution of articles and authors, evaluate the type of authors who publish in the journal, measure the bibliographic citation of articles previously published in the journal and the citation of national articles. Compare the results with existing ones. Design: Observational, transversal and descriptive study. Materials and methods: Systematic review of all issues of the journal between 2009 and 2015 on the type of article and authors, geographic origin of authors and articles, editing lag time, total number of references, number of bibliographic references of articles published in Portugal and number of bibliographic references of articles published in the journal. Comparison of results with the existing ones. Results: Between 2009 and 2015, in 630 articles, 50% have interns as authors, 50.8% do not have any General and Family Medicine specialist and 19.5% have at least one author who is external to the area. Moreover, 43% of the articles come from the North and 41.9% from Lisbon and Tagus Valley. The editing lag time of articles is 203±156 days. Total references in the articles published were of 12.0 ± 11.2, the articles published in Portugal of 2.4 ± 3.0 and the articles published in this journal of 0.6 ± 1.2. The dynamics of growth 8 in relation to the previous results are negative, down to -33.3 for the references of the journal, -14.3 for Portuguese references and -28.6 for total references. Discussion and conclusions: The editing lag time of articles is too long. The authors from the North and Lisbon and Tagus Valley produce 84.9% of the articles. The referencing values found are low and present with negative growth dynamics. It seems to be necessary to maintain efforts in order to encourage physicians to read, discuss and quote the journal.
