Fábrica Triunfo Rações : reconversão de um espaço industrial

Abstract

O meu tema de dissertação de Mestrado é uma proposta de reconversão da Fábrica Triunfo Rações situada na Zona Industrial da Pedrulha, em Coimbra. Uma área periférica da cidade definida para a implantação da indústria de Coimbra, que em tempos teve grande importância no desenvolvimento económico da região e hoje se encontra em quase total abandono. Como uma iniciativa para a reabilitação da Zona Industrial, a escolha do caso de estudo foi feita pela particularidade da unidade fabril composta por vários volumes, duas baterias de silos e servida por um ramal do caminho de ferro. Para o compreender melhor é necessário numa etapa inicial, descrever de forma sucinta, o enquadramento histórico da arquitetura industrial, a evolução da Zona Industrial da Pedrulha e da própria unidade fabril, percorrendo assim um percurso do geral para o particular. Deste modo, pretendo analisar o caso de estudo, um edifício que mesmo abandonado apresenta um valor histórico e cultural, de forma a devolver-lhe vida, com a introdução de um novo programa. Na procura de melhores resultados e fomentação deste trabalho académico, foi produzido um espólio de exemplos de reconversão de edifícios industriais, sendo apresentados alguns casos selecionados. No seguimento desse processo, propõe-se um programa adequado ao edifício em questão, numa tentativa de responder a uma recuperação e reintegração do seu testemunho, continuando a ser exemplo de qualidade arquitetónica na cidade, com caraterísticas verdadeiramente industriais. O processo de trabalho desenvolver-se-á com o conhecimento do contexto do edifício, o seu projeto e as fases de construção, recorrendo a fotografias e desenhos existentes e produzidos, e à apresentação do novo projeto que será desenvolvido com o apoio de peças desenhadas (plantas, cortes e axonometria) e imagens ilustrativas (esquiços). O tema visa ser um exemplo de como se pode trabalhar um edifício com especificidades próprias, de forma a reintegrá-lo na vida contemporânea da cidade, respondendo às necessidades locais e preservando o património.

My master’s dissertation is a reconversion proposal for the Triunfo Rações Factory, located at Pedrulha’s Industrial Zone, in Coimbra. A peripheral area of the city set for the implementation of Coimbra’s industry, which once had great importance for the economic development of the region and today is almost in total abandonment. As an initiative for their rehabilitation, the choice of the case study was made by the particularity of the factory’s composition in several volumes, two batteries of silos and served by a railway extension. For a better understanding of the case study context, it is necessary to go through a first stage, which consists in summarily describing the historic background of the industrial architecture, the case of Coimbra, the evolution of Pedrulha’s Industrial Zone and the of the factory unity, following a general-to-particular logic. Therefore, I pretend to analyze the case study, which consists of a building that despite being currently abandoned still presents a historical and cultural value, in order to bring life back to it, by introducing a new program. In order to achieve better results and to foment this academic work, it was produced an asset of industrial buildings reconversion examples, of which some were selected to present here. Following that process, it is proposed an adequate program for the referred building, which adapts it for its new use but still aims for a recuperation and reintegration of its industrial testimony, still being an example of the architecture quality in the city, with truly industrial characteristics. The working process will develop with the knowledge of the building, its project and the construction phases, resorting to photos and drawings either already existent or produced, and to the presentation of the new project that will be developed with the support of the designed pieces (plans, sections and axonometry) and the illustrative images (sketches). The theme aims to be an example of the existent possibilities while working on a building with its own specificities, in order to reintegrate it on the city contemporary life, answering to the local needs and preserving the heritage.
