By the end of November 2010, NATO will have a new Strategic Concept, one in which the major guidelines of action for the Alliance will be set, supposedly in tune both with the current international security climate and its own responsibilities within it. Based on the NATO 2020: Assured Security; Dynamic Engagement report drafted by the Group of Experts led by the former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, this policy brief attempts to critically analyze NATO’s current and future role in international security, pointing out several aspects and issues for which the Alliance should have a different approach. This policy brief is the result of a brainstorming session that took place in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, on September 14h, 2010.por
