The elderly are particularly vulnerable, and malnutrition is the main and most important nutritional disorder of the elderly. The prevalence of malnutrition before admission in care units, either acute or continuing, is high. This study aimed to comparative nutritional evaluation of 2 populations, 50 elderly from Nursing Home and 50 of the Internal Medicine Service of the Hospital Center and University of Coimbra, through descriptive analysis and statistical parameters Functional Assessment (Barthel Index), Nutrition (MNA), Anthropometric, Body Composition and Analytical. The purpose of it was concluded which population has the most at risk of malnutrition. It was shown that there was no statistically significant difference between the Barthel Index and the two samples of both sexes, with p = 0.938 and p = 0.933, respectively. The Mini Nutritional Assessment showed that the hospital had the highest percentage of patients met "at Risk of Malnutrition" (62% n = 31), while in the nursing home were the largest fraction with "Normal Nutritional Status" (56% n = 28). It was also found that there are statistically significant differences between samples and gender, with p = 0.000. In BMI descriptive study it was found that in hospital 50% of the elderly possessed a "Normopeso" (22-27 kg/m2) and 72% older home was rated as "Overweight" (> 27 kg/m2). Globally, it was found that the hospital number of elderly patients with BMI <22 kg/m2, "thinness", is higher than in the nursing home with 22% and 10%, respectively. Hospitalization emerges as the main source of malnourished patients, and on average younger ages, but not significantly. There was no statistically significant difference between the genders (p = 0.410), but despite this, the percentage level is the elderly males who have a lower rate of nutrition in relation to females. Globally, nutritional conditions between hospitalized elderly are different from those residing in nursing homes. Hospitalized elderly were significantly in "Under Risk of Malnutrition" while in the nursing home, mostly was with "Nutritional Status Normal".por
